DIY with Quantum Boards

hello folks, can anyone tell me if the hlg 600h will light a 4x4 tent sufficiently? tent is 9' tall so having to keep it 24-30" off the canopy is not a problem.

i've heard qbs have issues around the edges and corners.

if not the 600h, what would people suggest?

The 600h is made for 4x4 or 5x5.. based on the website you get about 16% more light than 1000w se hps.. like anything else corners will have a bit less light but you would still get very good coverage. You may want to add a few cob or strips for the cornee if you really wanted to but just with that you should be good to go

QB's light the corners better than cobs, anyone saying otherwise is talking out their ass. A 600h will light nothing......... what do you plan to power with it? 4 QB 288 or 304 will light a 4x4 very well and unless you plant to use CO2, a 600h is way more than you need. I run my 4 board QB 304 light with a HLG320H C2800b and I can't even imagine more light than that in there!

You're in a 4x4? At 20w/sq foot? Damn, you're really making the most of that wattage!

Was planning to buy the kit from growerslights. Potentiometer would let me dial it down a bit in the 4x4 but still be covered if we upgrade to a bigger room

Well with the quantum boards the S6 are at a much higher price. Which is fine since the people who run this business still got to eat something and provide some service for people who arent too familiar with diy led. They also dont fit very well in my space for perfect distribution.

Cant seem to find stripes with S6 binning on the internet. Do you maybe have a source for one @Viceman666 ?
You might get alot more replies and answers if you created your own thread about using samsung strips and bridgelux strips, tons of people on here doing that, some great DIY projects to learn from. This particular thread is devoted to Quantum Boards.

So I'm about to buy some quantums.
It is supposed to be used for flower only.
The space is 3.3 x 6 ft. So 19.8 ft²

The problem here is that HLG is sold out.... seems like this has been a problem for a long time.
I could only get the 4000k quantum but dont feel very comfortable with this as a flower light. Also the heatsinks are sold out as well, so I'm gonna purchase those LED stripes from digikey.

SI-B8U521B20WW

I was thinking of buying 10 of those stripes and running them @450 W.
so that means 46v and 1A for each stripe.
In total they have 1440 LED.

I guess they are not S6 binning but S4.
How big is this difference in real world use? at 50% power it seems to be a difference of arround 11% in lumen output. Quite a number but:
The stripes would be more distributed on the space and have more single LED as an lightsource than the Quantum boards. So might this compensate for the worse binning?

In COB threads its alll about 1 COB for 1 sqft.
Is this still the better solution?
Is there any data showing that the narrow space of a Quantum board is superior to distributed COB or stripes with S4 binning?

Im also having a hard time finding some data for comparison between Quantum boards vs Stripes vs COB.
Did anyone ever tested this? @CobKits maybe?
i have QBs in stock on my site

That's not correct. Whoever did that comparison failed to take the test temp of the F strips into account. The 44" single row strip in 3500K, 80CRI is rated for 8800 total lumens at 1120 mA, which works out to 124.4 mA per diode. The Samsung calculator will tell you that 144 of the S6 bin LM561C diode will give you 9489 total lumens. However, the F strips are rated at 65C, while the calculator assumes 25C. If you consult the LM561C data sheet you will find a temp compensation curve which shows that at 65C they have about 93% output. 9489 times 0.93 equals 8824, just slightly more than the F series rating of 8800. The F series strips do indeed use S6 binning.

hey you all ! well i got my first QBs in july i believe, and liked them so much i picked up a slate 6 Quad... and with the driver i have on it, with the potentiometer i cant even run it at 75 % i pumped it up to 100% the first day i traded the 260 watt QB out and put in the quad... next day the plants were all cringing and bent down trying to get away from the light . so i lowered it to just a little above the mid point of the Potentiometer, the very next day they were reaching for the light again... I am growing in a 5x5 tent and i had 7 plants started a Black Cream Auto that has been moved to another tent now and all the Photos i flipped to 12 / 12 last week it is currently at 10 weeks / 1 week into the flower mode. I am growing these brutes in autopots with advanced nutrients GMB and additional Cal mag... they are kicking ass ... as far as light coverage... the light is truly overkill, i had to back it off of full throttle to keep from burning them, and the light seems to be penetrating deep into the dense foliage, and, corners be damned! I am amazed at how happy the grow is going. this is my first shot at Photos.

Pleeeease get an european distributor, I love the lights and really want more HLG 40s, but a 300 euro order ends up costing over 400 euros after shipment and import etc. And that doesn't include the time you spend on filling customs forms.
