IMG_20180318_185451.jpg Hi im very new to all this and this is my first grow, I've got 5 auto big bangs under 600w hps ,32 inch away from top of plants, got a computer fan on high in the tent to circulate the air and 2 vents open at bottom. The leaves are curling up. Any ideas what this could be? I've been reading up on other threads and I think it could be root rot?

Hi Jamie2018!
What do the other 4 look like. Take a picture of the best of the other 4.
What is the temp and humidity near the plants?
Does the 600w have a glass cover on it?

It looks like the plant is getting to much heat just my oppion how hot is the air temp at the peak time ? How long are the lights on ? How far away are the lights ?

Some look stressed, one looks pretty good, might just be able to handle the heat better than the others.
Heat or light stress is likely the problem. It would make a big difference if you were able to enclose your light with a glass cover and ventilate the heat out.
Root rot is not likely to be your problem in this situation.
I'm guessing you don't have a humidity meter.
You should get a cheap one like this.

MY FRIEND! Hit a home Depot or a Walmart RIGHT away and pick up a 4 pack of 23 watt (60 equiv) CFL Daylight Spectrum (6500K) and set those up over top those little guys for the first 3-4 weeks. About 4" - 6" You really don't need to be blasting the 600W HPS yet. its not an efficient use of power in the grow at this stage neither. The penetrating power of the HPS is way too much for seedlings. Plus its spectral output is really geared to the needs of a flowering plant than the vegging plant. The 6500K CFLs will do you excellent until you wanna flip those to bud and use that HPS. Things are just too intense in your tent for those little guys.

You really probably need a bigger fan to more quickly replace the air in your space. The intensity of the light is not the issue as I sprout and veg seedlings under 600W hps myself, but I have a 6 inch duct fan bringing fresh cool air into the tent. If your temps are over 90 degrees its no bueno for most strains.

What I mean is you need a duct fan deliberately pushing air out of the tent. Circulating hot air will not help.

Can I pop a 250w in??
250 is still a little high, but I think 250w cfl will be more gentle... I have 4 plants in a 36x36” tent and have been vegging w a 125w cfl veg light @8-10 inches for about 2 wks. In about another 2 wks I’ll start hitting them w my Timber 400w 4VS. I had my Timber on w the potentiometer turned all the way down (along w the veg cfl light). I started noticing the edges slightly curling in, so I cut off the timber and am just going straight cfl for now. Good luck.

Just because you do, doesn't mean its a good practice. Why burn 600w over a veg cycle when you can easily get away with 100 watts of CFL with better results? If you insist on HID for such a small amount of plants.....consider 250W MH bulb. to start. OR what mickey oneil is suggesting is also a great option.

I should have elaborated. my bad. I completely agree with Sgt. Sly as well in this case that its a waste of energy. But for myself the effort to swap lights doesn't outweigh the losses. I may consider swapping with the MH bulb but I'm also running 12/12 year round.
OP will still need a fan that replaces the air in the tent regardless of what lighting is chosen.

I will also agree it is not best practice to sprout/veg under 600W HPS, but as I'm sure you know @Sgt.Sly this is far from the worst choice.
