Ya my res is the same. I barely stir by hand, water moves around so much. And I use sun leaves rocks. It slow releases silica which is pretty nice. I also like how every chunk of rock is a different shape. Makes for nice pockets for the roots to grow in. It doesn't float like hydration does too.

I run airstones in my res for a couple reasons. Mucky stated one reason, to prevent non benificial bacterial and fungal growth, but I also use it to prevent sediment from settling. Keeping your nutes moving helps more consistent spread of nutrients when flooded. You won't have different ec/ppm...

I use 5 air stones in my res with a strong pump. Im saying i use h2o2 also.......i add 5ml per gal (20-25ml of h2o2) in my 27 gal res once a week. It helps. Its also handy and helpful to sterilize hydro equipment.

To clarify. H20 is 2 hydrogen 1 oxygen molecule. Hydrogen peroxide is 2 hydrogen AND 2 oxygen. Roots really really love it, and its a good sterlant for you res and root zone. I always tone my usage from recommended, but I always use it....cocoa or ebb and flow.

From my understanding, when roots touch in hydro applications, oxygen gets restricted and roots hate that shit. I would assume my roots touch, doesn't make a difference unless the roots clog up fill/drain lines.

the first pic was at 1 week after transplant/beginning of flower, the second pic is at 4 weeks into flower. I had about a 250% growth increase during the first 2 weeks of flower.

depending on how much room you have to work with between the plants and your hood, how crowded you like you grow area. I grow 24 clones in my 3x3 flood and drain, under a 600w hps, in a 4x4 tent. I vegged for almost 2 weeks and I almost ran out of space. I'd recommend considering what strain(s)...

To help the issue of taking pics with your girl under the hps, put some polorized sunglasses in front of the camera lense... it helps so you don't have to move her.

4" fan I see......under 200 cfm for sure. You need a vortex fan, at least a 6". ditch the reducer? if you have one. Also carbon filters are better to push through instead of sucking through.
