I always tell people if you're gonna do hydro a ppm meter is a must. Without knowing the ppm of your nutrient solution is kinda hard to point you in the right direction. My advice would be to cut back on the nutes until you can buy a ppm meter

I say start in soil first before trying hydro. Less maintenance and easier on the water bill.
