Philips doesn't make LEDs anymore.. they sold off Lumileds a while back

Does anyone know what happened to Intelligent Light Souce? http://intelligentlightsource.com/ "Intelligent Light Source is now closed for business. Thank you for your past support. Instructions for programming our lights can be found here."

I really want to know... why the black solder mask on the LED boards?

I could have sworn I saw a different SPD indicating lots of blue and lots of red when I originally posted this, but I was probably just imagining things. I visited an LSG factory back in 2007 or so and have never seen an LED company as obsessed with quality control. This was back in the early...

My mistake - I didn't realize those are not mono blues in the fixture. I'll retract that blurple comment. I am fully aware of LSG's reputation in the SSL industry. I was commenting on the rather hyperbolic language in the press release, which frankly, I am getting sick of.

DUET 250 (Fixture) - Prototype Lineup

Are you referring to the Lumileds Luxeon C line? I hear the new ones range from 38%-60% efficient, engineering samples going out this month

Does anyone know more details about the Fluence 2.15 umol / J efficiency claim? I find that hard to believe unless they are getting absolute TOP bin from Osram every time, AND using the most efficient Intematix phosphors, etc. Personally I'm not sure I would believe without third party...

Does anyone know of any recent documented grows with Illumitex (Power Harvest) or Heliospectra?

IP54 isn't hard to achieve, although Illumitex and Heliospectra are probably the only ones to consistently meet/exceed this rating. Lens is likely PMMA for higher transparency; Heliospectra uses Lumileds Rebel LEDs and I really question the total system efficiency they are getting with these...

Illumitex uses a potting compound to encapsulate all around the Surexi LEDs after mounting and wiring the modules. Considering the Surexi also has a cover glass adhered to the optical assembly, the potted assembly would be quite waterproof. Also several suppliers (EMB Pabst comes to mind) offer...

    DIY COB reflectors

The idea of combining a fresnel optic with a reflector is attractive since reflectors cannot do much to the very center of your beam, and a resulting hotspot will always be present. In theory, a fresnel can be added to reduce the intensity of the hotspot and get more of a batwing distribution...

    ...All Things Vero...

Look at it this way - you could easily have a dark green leaf show absorption of 90% across 400-700, however within that range absorption in 500-600 might be 70%, giving the leaf a dark green appearance. Just because plants absorb less green light doesn't mean they are highly reflective in the...

REALLY interesting. I've been working on various tricks to level out the spectrum and fill critical spectral gaps in some of my devices over the last few months. It's nice to hear that this truly makes a difference

I dont have my spectrometer or any veros on me right now; what about the spectrum in your opinion is better? Smaller gap at 490nm?

    ...All Things Vero...

SDS good catch on the CXA bond wires in the design guide. I was thinking Cree could be using many of the lower current DA2432 die in the COB. I'd consider using one of the Cree direct attach dies in my COBs if the capital cost to bond eutectic dies wasn't so high... Fortunately there are other...

    ...All Things Vero...

Cree has to use a ceramic substrate for those CXA arrays because the chips inside use a flip chip architecture (no wire bond) which requires eutectic die bonding to the substrate. This process requires higher temperatures which will damage an aluminum substrate. Veros on the other hand are...
