1000w has a foot print of 4x4 or 5x5 depending who you ask. Id space at 4-5ft.... to ensure even light distribution. Im not an expert but its theory i used for my tents

Also....I thought the same as you about the filter taking some of the air flow away... So, I set up both and during testing of my rooms temps... The filter/fan/light combo was only 1 degree warmer. So, I went that route.

New grower here myself with a similar set up. Mine is just a tent not a room. The only difference between your 1st and 2nd drawings are....you will only need one fan for the 2nd...hence you will use less electricity...ect ect....thats all. functionally they are the same....thats what I got from...

I used tap water that comes throught an under sink filter. Then I let sit out. Ph is 6... after its sat out. I'm gonna give them water until they tell me they need more than just water.
