1 light, 4 plants, 2 pounds

Hi guys, new grow journal.

I’ve decided to retire my DWC 400w hps setup. And I have ordered the parts and pieces to built a 4 site undercurrent dwc system and I’m also building a 600w cob light. I thought I would start a grow journal before my grow even starts and show how my new grow room comes together as well.

So far, here is what I have put together.

For the rdwc;
5ea 4 gallon buckets with 6” net pots, the 5th bucket being the remote. Plus a 25 gallon Rubbermaid for a remote tank.

A whole bunch of 1 1/2” bulkhead fittings and plumbing plus a float switch for a remote tank.

An echo plus 793 gph air pump

I can’t remember the details of the water pump, but it’s submersible, I may switch that out for an external.

For the light side of things. I have 6 vero 29 Gen 7b 3k powered by two meanwell hlg-320-1750 drivers for 91w per cob. Also will be cooled actively. I plan on adding two 1750k vero 29’s when the my come available to me, in the meantime I will just use my advanced platinum p300 for supplemental light.

My grow area is going to be 4’x4’ and I will be running ac/dehumidifier and a red neck chiller.

I have been using advanced nutrients in the past supplemented with potassium silicate and cal mag. But I’m not against trying something different like general hydroponics in the future. I think I will stick with AN nutes for the first round to see what differences this setup can do.

As far as strains go, I’m not sure yet. I have feminized blueberry, northern lights, sour diesel (nyc), and critical mass. I also have some pretty decent bag seeds, from a MoM called “fruit loops” I have grown out one female and that pheno showed some promise.

Oh, I also have a bluelab guardian comming to make sure my solution stays where it needs to be.

Anyway, it’s been a pretty nervous and exciting venture as I have invested quite a bit into my new setup.

Any comments are welcome.
I will take pictures as I start assembling and finally growing.

Thanks!!

I will be posting pictures as I build it and obviously the first grow in the system. I received my cobs and meanwell drivers today. I will say the wiring harness that you can get for the gen 7 vero29 will make wiring a breeze. I’m still waiting on a few terminal blocks and heat shrink tubing for it.

It seems I screwed up when ordering the drivers and I got the A model, not a huge deal I guess, I am now considering building two lights bars with 3 cobs each instead of one frame containing six lights.

I also received my buckets and all of my bulkhead fittings, I will be able to start piecing it together once I pick up a 2 1/2” hole saw. I bought a brass boiler cave for my circulation pump service line, but I think I will be switching that to a ball valve for less restriction. I’m still waiting for my float valve to come in the mail, but other than that I believe I have everything I need for the under current system, aside from some new air stones.

Anyway, I’m at a standstill waiting for parts. I will start posting pics once I can start building.

Well I finally started piecing together the new rdwc system. I used 3m marine 4200 on the bulkhead fittings. I reccomend 4200 over 5200, I have used 5200 a few times before and you need thermonuclear devices to remove that shit. Also, the silicone acts as a lubricant when tightening the bulkhead fittings, and you can easily over torque them. 4E88AE11-3C5E-4AEE-92A8-1C957D15AE0C.jpeg

That’s the almost final product. I still need to install a couple 1/2” bulkhead fitting to the reservoir for the pump return line and the float valve for the remote.
I’m still waiting for a few parts for my light. I’m hoping to get that built ASAP.

I got the new rdwc system finished today. I’m still waiting for heatsinks for my cob light. In hindsight, I would have been much further ahead to just order passive heatsinks from digikey. Amazon and eBay Are sometimes excellent but there always seems to be major headaches when you’re ordering multiple items from different vendors.

Anyway, here is the rdwc. 1703A8EA-F64C-4F1F-B71E-ED75714741DF.jpeg

I have a couple of old auto seeds kicking around that I will try in it with the old HPS while I’m waiting for my light parts.

P.s. building this rdwc was fairly straight forward and painless.

Anyway, I built the light differently than originally planned, I build two separate fixtures for better versatility. Here they are. D8E29A12-1EAF-43F9-9B12-4577DDC80406.jpeg72ED9EF4-5457-4359-8AF9-9F012A2D767E.jpeg
