There is a garden composter manufacturer that also sells bricks of coconut coir and hemp substrates. Here are some descriptions, keep in mind it's also used with composting toilets and at the same time try to keep that in the back of your mind.

The Green Bag = Peatmoss/Hemp Mix
Compost Sure for composting toilets comes in an 8 gallon (30 Litre) bag. It consists of coarse peat moss and chopped hemp stalk. Compost Sure has an added advantage over homemade bulking material - hemp. Hemp will decompose where wood shavings and peat moss do not - giving your compost a longer residency time! More importantly, it saves you the time of making your own mix.

The Blue Bag = 100% Hemp Stalk
DESCRIPTION
Give your compost longer residency time with the Sun-Mar CompostSure Composting Accelerator for Low Flush Systems - 5 Bags. Designed for low flush systems, you only need one cup per person per day. Made up completely of hemp stalk, which breaks down quickly, CompostSure keeps your compost well-supplied with carbon.
Compost Sure Blue for water flush composting toilets comes in a 8 gallon (30 litre) bag. This is bulking material containing 100% hemp stalk. Designed especially for central systems with low-flush toilets in addition to garden composters. The hemp stalk breaks down quickly while offering good porousity and keeps the compost supplied with carbon.

What do you think? Worth a try? Already been done? Cannibalistic?

Thats pretty interesting, it might be worth a call to the company to ask if they really dont add anything else to it. its cheap enough that it would be a fun experiment. the problem i see is figuring out a fertilizer regimen and maybe any residual pesticides the hemp growers might have used.

I never thought about calling. I'm going to have to now that you mention it.
But i agree, it's definitely cheap enough to be a fun experiment.

This is what i'm thinking for an experiment. using liquid fertilizers.
Test mix #1: 100% hemp (blue bag)
Test mix #2: hemp/peat (green bag or 50:50)
Test mix #3: hemp/coco (50:50)

there isn't any information on hemp as a growing substrate except i remember reading a long time ago that hemp core substrates could be used in commercial fields to correct nitrogen depletion leftover from years of conventional fertilizer use.

I'm thinking:
HN Natural line vs GH Veganics line
use calmag/equilibrium with every watering, ro water

then a control... like foxfarm
