1000w in LED's flowering a massive Pure Kush

Can LED's produce the same Quality and Yield as HPS?

I'm always being asked how my LED's are doing. I have been using LED's with great success. Under 300w LED's, I'm able to veg 3 months with little loss on the oldest growth. I have built a second flowering room to be dedicated for LED flowering. Here is my first full LED grow and thought some of you would enjoy seeing the results!

This is a Pure Kush that I have vegged for 3.5 months! She is a monster biotch measuring in at 40" by 60"!! She is laid out pretty good. I have cut some leaves but most I have tucked under.

I have some pictures and will be setting up a link to even watch some videos. I welcome any questions.

Thanks,

Mr. Kushington

I posted some pic's. These range from veg under 5 band LEDs to my new 7 band LED veg light. That blue is not photo shopped, that's how it really looks when I switch off the full spectrums. There are some pics right before flower and some in the first week. I have some new ones and will post them soon. The finished plant is another Pure Kush that I flowered under 1000w HPS. She turned out amazing and about 6 oz. I put here up so we can see the difference and to know what to expect as she grows lots of cola's for us!

I have also shot some videos. Is there a place to post them here?

Out of curiosity, what led lights are you using? and what led colors (spectrum) do you run for veg/flowering? Ive been trying to sort thru all the bs with led gro lights. I dont want to use mh or hps anymore, seems like temp shouldnt be that expensive to control lol. Im looking at this light system http://sunlightsupply.com/p-14184-agroled-led-fixtures.aspx , id like to hear your feed back on light. im basically doing bubbleponic/dwc setup with totes.at max ill only ever have two mothers, humboldt and pure afghan kush, and four clones.

i voted no led do not produce the same as hps for the price

i would have to do 4 grows a year with led to get the same yield as 2 hps grows

what was the actual power draw of each LED lights vs the actual power draw of your HID? and are you still using your LEDs as supplemental light now? dont lie!

I'm using several. There are 4 x 100w lights on the sides and 2 x 300w for the top. One top one is 5 band, 2 blues and 3 reds. The newer one is 7 band and includes both cw and ww.

The blue pic is not a photo shop. Thats really the intense blue light it puts off. This is also new and designed just for vegg. Its doing amazing! LED'S grow buds that are narrow because there is not enough light from the side. There is no reflector. I'm testing if providing LED light on the sides will the buds get bushier and compete? I think they will, time will tell.

My good friend Tibor helped design and produce the lights. He makes a great product! I will try to post a pic of the lighting setup.

I would not use that LED light. The 1 watt LED's are not powerful enough to penetrate the leaves. You will end up having to put your plants 3-4" away from top and the light spectrums are not blended very well. I use 3w diodes and have to keep plants 30" away from light. Not because of heat, but the light is so intense it actually becomes to much at close distances. This is based on the nominal 450w actual 300w draw lights. There is no doubt these lights can hang with 600w mh for veg. Maybe even a little better!

Any updates here? Stevehman is doing a 1000w ledgrow on another forum aiming for max yield. While it's not exactly a comparison grow, it could offersome insight for those looking to replace 1000w hps with led. Also on the same forum a guy did 200w led vs 250hps, and guess which one won?

Puffenuff, I do you have any recommendations for media?

I'm using fox farm ocean forest. But since the LED's do not dry up the soil as fast as hps I have begun to mix FF with 1/2 coco coir. This has caused the roots to grow much faster. And, since I use the cloth air root bags I can see the new growth.

I've noticed the soil not drying out quite as fast either....

I've started watering them 1/2 as much, twice as often.... more work, but the plants don't end up sitting in completely saturated soil for extended periods of time...

Just an idea!

I like straight coco or a coco/perlite mix. It will dry up faster than soil. Beefbisquit is right on about the watering, feed more often but in smaller quantities.

I use 70% Sphagnum Moss (pro-mix w/ lime and perlite already added), then I add 30% extra perlite.... water every 2 days, 2 liters each plant...

They dry out pretty quick, and the extra perlite lets them drain a lot quicker.
