what size pots or grow method are you going to use? to me that would determine everything.
Let me start of by letting u know, I'm totally green... My buddy uses 15 gallon with coco... But that room is a little bigger and has 18 plants and 6 lights... And I'm not sure on the light watt, I'm guessing 600. I'd like to use smaller pots and less lights? Any input would be great...

There you go, the last two post you got were the perfect replies. At the least, 4 600s and at the most 4 1000watts... I agree with that as being the range you would want to stick with.

Yea I would say 1000 watt lights x 4. Use some HPS lights at least during flower. But I know people that just use HPS start to finish if your on a budget. Might just get a little more stretchy. Three plants each light. Veg them medium size so that you can make a canopy that wont allow for light to hit the floor and get wasted. I would put a net that covers 4x4 under each light and use the net as a guide to making a fully covered canopy. You know what I mean, fill the gaps. You don't have to use a net but you know what, it makes it easy to fill that space. You can run the growth horizontally that way to fill the space. You really need to make sure the plants are some what big because you only have 3 plants per light. No flowering a two foot plant.

A 1000W bulb is said to be sufficient to flower a room 8 x 8 feet. If I was in your situation I would use 2 600W set-ups to flower.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Where is that info?

My take on lighting for useable penetration and footprint is this:
400w at best 3x3 footprint
600w at best 4x4 footprint
1000w at best 5x5 footprint.

The minimum you want to use the entire room would be 4x600w lights this would give you room enough to get in around the plants at watering time etc.

But in all honesty depending upon how much you would like to achieve (grams wise) you could grow 12 medium sized plants under 2x600w lights and section the room off.

I would buy 20 area -51 rw-150s and cram as many 3 gallonpots that average 1-2 oz per plant dried in there . 10x10 I could for around 90 plants ( walking room) . I would on average get 9 lbs or more a cycle with 3000 watts .

4x1000W HPS would work very well in an 10x10 area if you could fit between the plants while watering.

I guess you could also use cxa3070 if you want to spend somewhere around 6000 dollars for leds, heatsinks, and drivers...

(edited to correct for 10x10 instead of 8x8 )

I rock an 8x12 that's off set 2.5' from center so I have a lane to work in. I run 3x 600s and kill it every single run for the past 4 yrs. Now switching over to 4x315 cmh lights next weekend.

notice i did not say hps . if you need to go old fashioned then hps i would have to go 6 .1000 watt lights . and murder the ac .

I run 2 1000 watt on 2 light movers on 2 -7' strips. Roughly 40" wide canopy. My room is only 8'. A 1000 watt will do 4x4 great and 5x5 ok. You need no less than 4 1000's. LED's? If money isn't an issue. lol
