12/12 and LST right from the start ? Opinions please.

Hey Everyone. I have had someone tell me that considering the size of my Cabinet that I should go 12/12 and LST right out of the gate. Does anyone have an opinion about this idea? I hadn't planned on it but if it is advantageous due to the size restrictions, I would like to know more. Have a look at the size in the photo and pass along anything you may think I should know. There are 6 - 45w CFL's in each chamber.
Newbie here so any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

How many plants are you planning to put in each chamber? I think you have just enough space to grow 2 plants in each chamber with some decent LST.

Personally, I wouldn't go 12-12 from seed, simply because if this is your first grow, and it's just bag seed, use this as a way to learn how plants grow under both light cycles (18-6, then 12-12). Put a couple plants in each chamber, veg them for a few weeks, then flower them. My two cents.

Also, what spectrum are your bulbs?

Really nice work on your cabinet.

the best way to start is let the plant veg til 4-5 nodes show up on the plant and then flower and LST frrom there. Look at my grows to see my LST

Thanks Sunny. I was thinking just that, 2 in each and I had every intention of trying my hands at LST. Each chamber has 6 lights. 45W CFL's. 6500K for veg and a mix for flowering. I was thinking 4 @ 2700K and 2 @ 65. What do you think of that? I actually have access to some clones to start off so I think I will VEg for 3 weeks or so and then start to flower.
Thanks for the input and anything else you have to throw my way, I will gladly take it.

Crikey, not messing about hey?
Why don't you use the bottom half for the experiment and use the top half for growing one of the really fast auto strains like the Top 44 or Speed devil? You can use a rolling black-out curtain to maintain the darkness for the bottom (a bit like a grow tent within a grow box).

I'll be rooting for ya.

peace to You,

Yarndi makes a great suggestion - for your first grow, use one chamber for a full cycle (3 weeks veg, then 60-70 days flower), and the other chamber to try a couple of autos. I've secretly wanted to try the Speed Devil and the Easy Ryder for a while now...

Also, it will set you up pretty nicely for a staggered harvest cycle. Once you remove and harvest your autos, the plants in your other chamber should be approx. halfway through their flowering cycle, which is a great time to crack seeds (or get some clones) and start a new full grow in your empty chamber.

I think you'll definitely have enough lighting in each chamber for decent yields. The bulbs are 45W each, or 45W equivalent each? If they're 45W actual each, then you're doing fine. I'm not sure about mixing spectrums. I use 6400K for veg, and 2700K for flower. I physically change the bulbs when I switch from 18-6 to 12-12, so I'm not sure how beneficial it is to have both spectrums during flower because I haven't tried it.

Peace

yeah thats a nice setup bro... but as far as how you want to utilize it that's your call for sure! There's plenty of options it really depends on what your looking for and what strains you grow. One nicely LSTd plant could fill that up if you veg it for a bit. If it we're me I would just maximize it with one or two good strains LSTd to bush them out and stagger them with clones. Either way your going to have to react to the plants... Lots of people plan on them growing one way and they get a completely different pheno and conditions change. Best of luck looking forward to seeing this come to life! +rep!

Thanks Yarndi. I actually have the inner doors sealed so no light gets from chamber to chamber so leakage will not be an issue. I may just use your idea about the auto's, makes alot of sense.
Thanks for the advice Bro, I'll be watchin you too.

Hey Sunny, thank for the info man. The only reason I was thinking of mixing spectrums because of what I have read. A lot of people seem to mix them but really is it going to make that much of a difference? Perhaps not and if I don't change them, that's less messing around in there. I like the idea of staggering the harvest cycle and is actually what I ultimately had in mind. the bulbs I have are actual 45W, not equivalent so all should be good there.
I am going to start off with clones so if i veg 2 for a few weeks and the send them to flower, let them go for a while and take clones from them? I could then start the clones in one chamber while the others finish flowering and after I harvest, the new clones would be done veg and ready to flower. Would this not keep the cycle pretty close if it was just repeated? Every time 2 plants are a few weeks into flower, cut some clones and start them? Maybe I am missing something here with timing being a noob and all !!
Thanks again for the help and I thank you in advance for any more you can throw my way.

Thanks for the rep Potentrx. Do you not think if LST's properly I could keep 2 going in that space? See my thoughts above in my reply to sunny and see what you think.

Hey man,
I hope everything is going well.
It's been a few days since your last post, any updates?
My two easy riders are flowering, Ruby is going great guns, the other one is still struggling but she's doing her best.
I had a dud 2700k lamp sent to me so I'm flowering them with small 2700k CFL's until the big one comes. I've also got the 6500k lamps going on the other side of my grow box because henrietta the Hinud Kush is only 2 weeks old., I'll update my thread/journal tomorrow.

Stay fit, keep healthy.

Yarndi
