125w CFL to 500w MH??

About to transition from my 125w CFL to a 500w MH (1000w ballast dimmed 50%). Their gonna be 14-18 days old from seed.

My question is what do you guys recommend Ihow far I should keep the light from the tops? Want to take it easy on them not to stress them out with the light change. Thanks!

on day one keep them 20-24 inches away....overkill yes, but you can start to lower if they look happy, sometimes the transition is stressfull

Thanks for the advice dude. I'll probably end up doing just that, 20"-24".

What would be some key signs to look for if they do happen to get stressed?heat stress and stress in general for the more powerful light

If your leaves at the top become crunchy, start to brown and/or curl, it's probably too hot.

Do you have an air-cooled hood? After a week or so, put your hand with palm down on top of the tallest plant, then lower your light until after about 15 seconds, your hand is too hot, then raise the lamp about 2-3" from there and you're set.

Temps and humidity are on point in my opinion, I keep the temps between 75-82 day and 66-69 at night. and RH anywhere between 50%-70%. And I'm about 11 days in from seed

Also im like 3 weeks from seed, is this a good time to switch the cfl for the mh?

How long do you guys wait to put away the CFL's for something bigger? I plan on vegging for about another 2-3 weeks and want my plants to flourish before i put them into flower

Aight so I just switched to the 500w mh, got it at 24" right now, this shouldent be too close right? Temps arent too high, .80-81f about what I normally have it

sounds good relax
look for signs of stress like speck said.
you are going to be watering more frequently I suppose.
you need air movement and you need to exhaust all that heat.

Spek is correct, no disrespect. If Its too hot for your hand...it's too hot for the leaves. Comments sense. Cha Ching!! Cracka jack!!
