i heard flushing with plain water is less effective then flushing with 1/4 or even 1/8 strength solution

Hey what's up everybody,

I just wondering where you got your 125watt envirolite from? I see them all the time on here and the results they bring, so I just wanted to know where to find them and how much? Also I imagine you have to have a special socket for it?

One more thing you said you went to the local hydro store for your mylar right?

I've been looking for days at every store I could find for that shit!

Peace
K-town

Thanks to more advice from BIGMIKE13 and lumberjack_ian, I started to shell out the $$$ and bought a 130w CFL envirolite - I bought just the red spectrum one for the first grow so I could improve my bud production.

I also bought some regular plant food, which I promptly burned my plants with, although the enhanced growth was amazing!

Topped plant 6 days later (June 6/07)

I'm not sure where you live, but here in Vancouver there are at least 50 stores that sell hydroponic supplies, and noone bothers to pretend that the equipment is for anything other than growing weed.

Mylar, larger CFL lights and nutrients are pretty basic - everyone carries them.

I forget what I paid for my 125w CFL, but I saw a 200w one recently for around $110 (CDN). You do need a special socket or "mogul" a hookup will run you about $10-15 on top of that.

Hope that helps.

I broke down and bought one of those mini-microscopes ($15 Cdn at Radio Shack/Source by Circuit City) and tried to get some pictures of my trichrome colours.

It was a bitch to get it in focus with the microscope, then again with the camera, so the pics are not perfect, but they seem to show the trichromes.

Please let me know if I've done this right.

No2 Trichs

Ok, so it looks pretty obvious that the trichromes are still clear here, so that means "keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep on truckin'" for another week, and check again then.

Big Girl Trichs

This one is a little more problematic. It looks like some of the trichs are amber, but the rest of them are clear - none of them have gone opaque? What's going on? Should I cut this one? Keep at it? Help a brother out!

WOW THAT IS AWESOME....GREAT JOB !!!....+REP

i took all mine at the second pic (trichs), i would not go more than a week from now. keep an eye out for 50/50 cloudy/amber

and sorry i missed the grow...idk why , but thanks for the note of help

if those trichs are that of the top colas then just take those and let the others finish.........again great job !!!

That dude brought that little plant back like a pro! Your really close to harvest on that one bud IMO. How's the saying go, when you think your done it's a week longer? Someone on here will help you on that harvest I'm sure of it, cause it looks like you might be harvesting in sections.

I'm a little puzzled because in the 2d plant, it looks like some of the trichs are amber and the rest are clear, with no cloudy ones.

If the continuum is clear-cloudy-amber, I would have expected lots of cloudy ones too.

I'm not disappointed with the result, just puzzled by it. Since the purpose of my first grow was to figure out how this stuff works, I'd like to get as much info as I can safely process.

Thanks for your advice.

Here's a final few shots of the buds:

(I want to use this one for a Christmas card)

Cropped Top

No 2 Plant

Secondary buds workin' overtime!

I will post weight at harvest after the cuttings.

Thanks again for all the help you guys have given me to see me through this first grow.

Well, with mixed feelings I took the knife to the girls today, ending the first phase of our relationship. The next phase - where I grind them up and set them on fire - will begin after about 1-2 weeks curing.

Here's a picture of the largest of the 3 main colas:

Here's a picture of the accumulated buds, trimmed but with main stems still on the colas:

I hope to get 1 to 1 1/2 oz dried 'product' once the curing is over.

I'm sure that most of you get far better yield than I did, but bear in mind I did everything by trial and error, ambient light and no nutrients, until I found this site.

Ultimately, I had the benefit of nutrients, CFL lights and the help of all of you.

Next time, I want to try and triple the yield from the same plants.

Thanks again, and happy smoking!

1 week air dried (hanging upside down in my grow closet) and I've trimmed off all of the leaves. I was left with a little over 1 oz of dense-bud which I have transferred to a mason jar to continue the process.

Tasting notes, for those of you considering growing the strain (Columbian Gold)

Looks - Dense bud with yellowish tint. Gold hairs throughout
Smell - Similar to Diesel fuel - not skunky at all, that will disappoint some, but I preferred my place not stinking too much
High - I have no way of measuring THC content, but I got pretty wasted off of one small bowl in my bong. Started off with more of a head buzz, but after 20 minutes or so I had profound couch lock. Took me a while to make it to the bedroom just to sleep. Getting up this morning was a bit of a challenge.

Merry Christmas! Nice grow buddy, especially for a first-timer. I'm not sure why you only got an ounce out of it though...I would have expected yield from such a plant, but from experience, I bet the buds are VERY potent:D

Thanks for the pat on the back.

The yield is not too much of a problem (really) because I am only growing for my own use and that much will last me a couple of months anyway.

For me, the purpose of this grow was to figure out what I needed to do - and I did everything wrong, but still limped to the finish line.

Probbaly the biggest impediment to success was the fact that the plants never got very big or bushy, which I attribute to using no lights at all for the first month of Veg and then only one CFL bulb for another month after that.

As a result the plants were very stretched.

I also waited too long to re-pot which held back growth.

I'm going to try again, still committed to CFLs for light, but apply the knowledge I've learned.
