1st Harvest--More Light, Denser Buds?

I just harvested my first grow consisting of two girls from Mexican bag seed. Got 450g wet, trimmed buds but most were rather "airy" and leafy. They're pretty sticky with trichs and a quick-dry bud yielded a real nice buzz after two tokes--definitely better than the parent.

My setup is a 4' wide x 2' deep x 8' tall closet divided into a 3' tall vegging level and a 5' tall flowering level. I'm using a 250w HPS light for the flowering level and a 150w CFL for vegging. Using ebb & flow systems using Botanicaire CNS17 nutes.

I'm thinking that if I switch to a 400w HPS light, I'll get denser buds and a little more yield. Is this the case? Should I do something else to get those rock-hard nugs?

400W would probably be overkill for 2 plants, in my opinion. Adding CFL's might be a better idea.

Oh, and it wouldn't hurt to try another nute brand. Not saying there's anything wrong with Botanicare, though.

For the next batch, I'm aiming for more plants. I started with 8 seedlings on the first run but 6 were male. My total effective growing area is about 2' x 3'. Trying to do more of a SOG thing. 400w still overkill?
