2 root systems, one plant? anyone try?

Is it feasible to train your main stem under the dirt of another pot to get it to root? I imagine it wouldn't be too hard with rooting hormone, and wittling down the stem a bit or cracking it or something.
Two root systems would have several advantages.
Has anyone ever tried this?
