250 w hps size question

would a 250w hps ( being 22 1/2 " long ) fit into a box 23 " wide and work ok?

my concern is heat buildup.... with only a 1/4 inch on each side for space....

other than the width it wont be an issue

the total dimensions are 32" high 23" wide 18" deep

would it fit and be ok?

it shoul fit and u will have heat issues with such a small spacing. what model 250 are u looking at? if u grab an inline booster fan for like 25 bucks or even some radio shack pc fans at 10 bucks each attached to the box itself up high helping to draw the hot air out should work. if not u can pick up a relatively nice 4inch can fan on ebay or craigslist sometimes for like 40 bucks. that would do the job for sure.

sun systems hps

basically im modeling it after Bongholyeo's set up ( you can find here = https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/473953-stealth-grow-dresser-12-23w.html )

his dresser is almost the same size as mine except mine is not as wide hence the 250 w question...

if not a 250w hps im looking at 8 42w cfl's for 22800 lumens ( 3857 lumens psf )

im looking at two 235 cfm ecoplus axial fans ( not sure 4" or 6 " ) - 1 intake i exhaust mounted on back door like BH did.... except im going to add charcoal filters as shown below

already thought about glass shield as well as one fan on each side of the lights to help cool

A glass shield on your light greatly reduces intensity , spec on a 250 watt hid , bad idea, also blocks out part of the spectrum your plants need. peace umbre

im thinking glass if i go with cfl's not hps -glass with 250w hps lol - that'd make a great way to burn everything up real quick

Not sure on cfl's never used them , but heat from a cfl is minimal , you wouldnt need to worry.

lots of people run air cooled hoods with glass screens that are hid lights.

Are you saying that all cool tubes block some part of the light? That means my cool tube for 150w HPS kills all of it?

i looked at 150w and thought about it and a few cfl's ...however im trying to get as close to 20k lumens as possible and with the limited space im not sure i could get enough cfl's with the 150 w in the box
A 250w hid is perfect for that space , have you considered a quality LED light/panel , you can achieve great things in a small space with limited heat, peace Umbre...

I would say for people in small areas where light penatration is no issue and plants are kept shorter its a no lose situation for you , the only drawback is the price of the panels and the research needed to get a good 1 , over long periods you would gain this back on power saving.

u could put two of them in that space u have. i have one already being used for males.

looking at 90w led... covers 4x4 area... and 50 w covers 1-4 sq ft...
From what i can gather and i am no expert i have not used them , just what i have read , you need to go for a higher wattage panels with stronger wattage diodes.

exactly. what that guy said. but i have had friends use them and if ur plants get to big ur kinda screwed. all my buddies that use them do more so for side lighting for the bigger plants they grow than anything. they use an hps for the top and the leds for the sides and lower half when in flower or they would veg the smaller plants with them till they were about a foot and a half tall then switch to bigger lighting. if u had the cash to buy a really good set it should theoreticaly work but i personally dont have the cash to fork out for them so ive never personally tried them. trusty hps and mh work fine and they are cheaper to purchase off the bat, but cost more to run in the end.
