2nd grow - preventing spider mites

My first grow was successful. I grew 7 plants and yielded about 1.5lbs and I was really happy with the quality of the bud as well.

I struggled with spider mites throughout flower. The only thing that worked was mighty wash, but I'd really prefer not having to use anything during flower again. What I want to do is take preventative measures during veg.

I'm thinking some sort of neem, og biowarfare, azamax treatment. Something like:
Week 2 veg: og biowarfare 2x
Week 3 veg: azamax 2x
Week 4 veg: neem 2x
Week 5 veg: mighty wash 2x

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

mighty wash is a bit overkill imo, but preventatives are nice to have during veg.


-shower and use fresh clothes before entering

-keep plants healthy & well fed.

-use a filter if pulling outside air

-clones should be inspected 110%

-clean the grow room before flipping, after you flip you should be VERY strict of what goes in/out.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I did all those things during my first grow, but I moved my tent from my garage to my grow room. I also noticed the mites after I topped the soil with earthworm castings. Could be a coincidence, or not.

If I'm going to do some preventative treatment during veg what would you recommend?

try to keep 3 different types youe rotation . azamax in clones and a neem and spinosad type once a week in veg , and you should be good thru flower. . ladybugs work well in bloom i never have had a infestation,. when was turned on to the 3 type method. happy growing

Neem oil/diluted azamax alone has worked for me, every 12 days & never use it past week 2 of flower.

I've heard of many people successfully using 3 products in rotation like 420producer is talking about so if your serious then that's the way to go.

Where did the mites come from? Do you live where they can survive outdoors? They might have walked in. You might have picked them up at a grow store? Perhaps a friend brought them in?

I wouldnt fight the mite again. Just chop it down, toss the soil, buy new. Bleach everything.

I've never been to a grow store and I haven't let anyone in my house. No pets either. I really think they came from the bag of earthworm castings.

My first grow concluded in August. 4 out of the 7 plants had mites. I bleached everything and tossed the soil and fabric pots.

I'm going to be more careful now (my plants are like 3wks into veg), but I'm just looking to do some prevention. I'm thinking I'll try neem/azamax like SPLFreak recommended.
