2x4 veg and clone

First off thanks to all for all of the great info over the last couple of years. Went from store bought soil to my own diy 4 bucket rdwc, then coco, then washed the dust off of the dwc, and now back to coco in drain to wast tables lol. All taught from you guys, thanks.
But I do have a question for my first post. Setting up a 4x2 for 2 different moms and use up the extra 18" or so for clones to root before they go in my sog.
Cost effective way that I found since its my first cob build is 3 vero 29 or 3590 running on a 240h-1750b or a 2100b on rapids 140mm sinks. I can always use the dimmer. 2 on a frame and 1 by itself for clones.
Days upon days of research and of course all of growmau5 vids I have decided on this. Any feedback is welcome

The 2 on a frame and 1 by itself is to lower if need be for the clones and the other 2 higher for moms

I havent done any research on strips yet but reading through the pages on the build thread and already confused. I'm sure it's overall same basics that I have learned so far. All I know is summer is coming and these 2 1kw sodium/halide are hitting the curb.

The reason I mentioned that thread, is I have a 3x6 Veg/clone area, that is illuminated by a strip build..... There are drive current options, that allow for running many strips without having the need for heatsink expenses.

Yes it about half the price for 4 eb 1120's and a 185-1050b driver vs the 3 cob setup i had in mind. Thanks for the heads up.

So just to double check before build my first light and order these parts today, that they will work together.

Looks like you figured it out

Arrow is about as fast as my build time. 18 hrs from order to door. All that's left is wiring after dinner and first build done (with lots to go) still have a 5x5 to do. Went with the gen 2 b3 instead since there the same price

I know there too far spread but just wanted to get my feet wet, ordering more next week

Not sure why I read about 20 hours on building since it was so easy, but at least I know. Thank you chip for suggesting strips. Maxed on a 185-1080a and the u channel has only raised 5°f over house temp at 71, way better than my 1k halide haha

Glad you found the Gen-2.

I'm in love with the cool temps and not having to have exhaust fan constantly on. Before I do the order Sunday for my 5x5 can I see a few pics from finished plants under these eb strips please.
For my 5x5 which has 2 2x4 trays in a sog I have came up with this setup, all opinions are welcome.
2 2'x4' units (1 for each tray) each bar having all 560mm strips
6x 5k
12x 3.5k
2 hlg-185-1050
This will be for flowering only. Total cost for everything including aluminum from Lowe's will be $570, so not bad for around 720 watts.
Is there a reason the 5k and 3.5k is so much cheaper per strip.

Check out SunCloak Horizons. 100w strip light 8 bulb t-5 replacement. I use them everywhere.

Would 2x hlg-240-c1400 drivers be tge best for price and function for 16x 560 eb gen 2 strips or should I go with a constant voltage and wire parallel? And by what i have added up it should pull about 450 watts?
OR am I just over thinking everything as usual? Lots of questions haha

Each HLG 240 C1400 will run 8x560mm EBs at around 28w each, for just under 450w. All correct.
One benefit of series wiring is balanced current, regardless of the number strips you want to run.
There is however a minimum voltage forward that needs to be met, to avoid "hiccup" mode, with those drivers...... so say you tried to run only 1 strip, it would "strobe".
You can use the same driver to power a smaller section of lighting, if so inclined....

1400ma is max current, but it sounds like your last build ran cool at 1050ma. You can always dim down with the right driver.

Ordered, lots of work to do this week, went with what I posted above, 32x 560 strips and 4x 240-1400 drivers. All in all will cost me around $600 framed and hung. I'll throw up some pics next weekend after it's built.
And went with the 1400 because the one I built is running really cool on a 1050a, so figured why not.

I have one panel, HLG185C1400, that runs 6 Gen1 EBs over a 2x2 area.....The strips are held together by a sheet of aluminum flashing, and 1/8th inch aluminum flatbar frame...
Its been running for months, at full operating temp it only loses 4 volts from the original 143 the driver pushes....That's about 3%, a little high for my liking but not alarming....
Measuring the voltage droop, from a cold start to full temp, of the entire series circuit, gives an indication if the emitters are in need of better thermal management....Any fan ,moving air across whatever frame they are on, should keep you into comfortable ranges.
