4 Pairs of Sisters

Hi everybody.

I have offically begun my second grow as of 6/30... this journal is starting at day 2.

I'm doing 8 ladies this time. The vegging will be done in a 2x3 ebb & flow, using a 400w MH; flowering in a 3x3 ebb & flow, using a 600w HPS. Each cycle/station is housed in a Homebox fitted with a 4" high output CanFan & 6" oscillating fan. I am going to vegg them until they are 16"20" tall... which I am thinking is going to be about 7/21. We'll see...

So the question is "What am I growing?"
(2)Northern Lights (2) Pot Of Gold
(2) Sour Diesel (2) Strawberry Cough

*I actually got one more each of the NL, POG, & SD, plus a Sensi Star, also. Those ladies are going to be grown to motherdom in another Homebox (https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/18269-growin-6-mommas-homebox.html#post184163 ) . I went to a collective in LA and picked them up at $17 per...

They were rooted in 2" rockwool blocks. To get them into the 4x4x4's I had to enlarge the plug area a little bit, but they are in nice and snug now. They got their first tastes of nutes + root stim (once every 24hrs, 15 minutes of flooding), and are chillin' under the 400w Hortilux 24/7. The nutes are Botanicare TRIFLEX, the Root Stim is GHBB Root Juice.

Compared to my Master Kush clones, I think these are looking much better for starters. There are a few leaves on one of the POGs & SCs that are struggling some, but I am keeping my eye on them... everything else looks pretty good to me. The POG in the back row is dominating right now! I am so stoked to see how each of these pair of ladies mature.

I connected some ducting between my vegg reflector and CanFan to help cool the temp in the Homebox... I also hung the thermometer right at plant level to get a more accurate temperature reading.

It really feels cooler in that Homebox now... but the thermometer hasn't dipped yet. Maybe I need t give it some more time. You can touch the reflector though, and it feels cool to the touch...

I added some GHBB Root juice (25%) to my nutrient solution.

Everything looks like its going according to plan so far, save for the stragglin' and (they are the two plants in the front row, on the right). I think they'll catch up soon though... I am not too worried. Fresh, new growth is happening and that is a good sign!

What I am concerned/worried about is FIMing/Topping the ladies this grow - I need more tops!!! I have read thru the FAQ a few times, and I have read thru my reference books a few times over, also... so I think I know where to cut/snip; I am unsure of WHEN to do it.

Any help will be much appreciated!
Thanks

The plants are growing up. The tallest is 7". I have done some practice TOPPING on the old master kush clones/plants... I am hoping to see some results in the next few days.

I am undecided on whether to just TOP and bloom, or to SCROG them in flower. Height is a major issue. I have roughly 48" from rockwool top to the bottom of the reflector/glass, so I will try to keep the ladies at 3ft and below; if SCROG the canopy line will be +8" over the cubes.

I don't want to have a tall and thin harvest... but tall & heavy will be aceptable though!

Suggestions or ideas are totaly welcome!

hey greyskull, I cant beleive no one has posted here yet. I guess there are not enough of us ebb n flow guys out there. Really tight setup from what I can see. I think because you have plenty of height and time, fimming rather than topping could benefit you. Nice system, keep the pics coming.

Whats up JB8? Thanks for the compliments on the setup. I am stoked about the vegg tent gear - it does a great job.

As long as I can keep the height controlled I should be okay. Thats why I am thinking about SCROGing after TOP/FIMing. I only have 3'Wx3'Lx3'H for flowering... but 600w HPS should be more than enough if I control my grow properly.

'Sup trapper. First grow was Master Kush (https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/12160-master-kush.html). The results were TALL & THIN. You can see the freshly harvested MK pics on page 8. I am estimating 4-8oz of dried & cured MK buds.. we'll see what happens!

I love the ease and reliability of the E&F -just check the PH & solution levels, as well as the distance from light to tops, and that's it. Its very clean, too... no soil spilling all over the place.

Inexperience #1, for sure.I didn't expect them to get as tall as they did. I thought they were going stop at around 36"... a few of them ended up close to 54". I vegg'd them until they were 24" tall (in only 21 days of 24/7 400w MH). Maybe the 600whad something to do with it.

Based on council of a very knowledgable & successul source (thanks KP!).
I am going to vegg to a heigth of 14", then TOP the plants; once the other branches catch up I'll send them into bloom.

I bought some nylon trellis at the hardware store, and am going to be setting up the SCROG net tonight or tomorrow morning. Nylon netting is a pain in the ass to set up!

tell me about it. My cab came with a fitted trellis and hooks to put it up. It took forever but its up and tight now. I am interested how you will set yours up. There does not seem to be any thing to attach it to there, but im sure youll figure it out.

I connected the nylon trellis. FUCK. That stuff sucks. I couldn't find a 36"x36" size.... only 5' x 8'. I had to cut it to size. No biggie. The biggest pain in the ass was trying to unravel it and get it straight so I could simply tie it to the corner posts. It is tight, but it has some give. And the squares are 6"x6". I may swap the netting for some wire rabbit fencing that has 3"x3" squares - I can then bend a canopy to size, and it will be extremely rigid.... hmmm. Maybe that is the way to go....

I have also tweaked the ventilation in the flower tent, too. I connected a hose from the 6" CanFan to the light reflector for direct exhaust of the light's heat. I also modified a 4" cooling fan (90 cfm, 115v) by supergluing it to the backside of the flange, and connecting it to the reflector. The CanFan has so much torque,(270 cfm) that the 4" blade spins without being powered on - you can the draw it creates! With the 4" on the reflector stays cool to the touch, and it seems much cooler in the tent, even though it is still 90 with the light on in the middle of the night!

I figure I have about another 7-10 days to figure that out before I stick sisters into flower. And its the middle of summer...

I am thinking of adding some CO2, too...

Get big girls.

Nice Greyskull. I just bought a CO2 setup for my grow, and it is slowly coming back together. Well faster now that I have CO2 to help photosynthesis!
