400w HPS/MH with a 3' x 3' x 5'

I am curious about my yield. How many plants can I fit in this tent?
Note: I am using a 6" Hurricane 435cfm to cool the light. Is this too much?
This tent is going to be in a corner of a 10 x 10 room by the window.

This is my first grow, so I am going to keep it simple and get use FFOF and/or Happy Frog. Maybe use SOG or SCROG. I plan to create a grow journal you guys and girls can follow my progress.

Plant count,
SOG 1-4 per square foot. 9-36 plants. The higher number is better in hydro, I would go for the lower for soil.
SCROG 1-4 plants total. More if you feel like it but no need to scrog with more.

Yield. 1gpw if your lucky. More if your good and have your shit dialled in. Less if your new to growing.

Your fan sounds excessive , if its too much then get a speed controller.

Thank you the for quick reply. 1gpw meanig 1 gram per watt? Per plant?

One gram per watt meaning regardless of the plant count, 1 gram per watt of light used. So 400 gram under a 400w HPS. Given if you have less plants you will have to fill the space by vegging longer to maximise your yield or if you have 9 plants you will veg them for a shorter period.
The goal is to maximise your yield by filling your area best for you. That comes down to how many plants you want and how quick you want them to reach harvest.
1GPW is a bit ambitious for a first grow though. If you get 10-12 oz off your first grow in soil then you should be happy.

Match the filter to the size of the fan, so if you are going 6" then at least 6" filter, bigger is better and lasts longer. Even if you only run the fan at half power or less a 6" filter will put less strain or resistance on the fan and allow it to clean better for longer. Not sure if you would fit an 8" filter in there, mine is huge. Just make sure on the duct sock sizes, a 3ftx3ft tent should have at least 6" duct socks but I have seen some really cheap ones only having 4" socks which just gives you something else to work around.
Good luck dude and BTW since I failed to say it earlier welcome to RIU. Its a great forum!

Thank you for warm welcome and your help. I just checked the duct socks. I have 7 6" ones. And 3 mesh vents on the bottom of the tent that can be covered with a cover using velcro. Wooooo! I am excited.

Sounds like plenty of vents! I'm sure your going to be very happy watching these ladies grow. Not much beats growing your own. :eyesmoke:

I medicate quite a bit. How long does the whole process take? Including drying and trimming? Am I lookin at 4-6 months? 'Cause I live in a room that's 10 x 10. Is it even worth it? Because with these clinics testing at 30%+, makes me just want to donate a the clinics instead of growing some mids.

It depends on strain amongst other things. Some strains are advertised as 8 weeks flowering but will take a bit longer due to the transition between veg and flower.
I will try and give an example based on buying clones which are rooted. I don't grow from seed so cant really offer a time scale on that.
Buy 9 clones Veg them for 2 weeks.
Flip them to flower for say 9 weeks
So you have 11 weeks.
Add 10 days for drying depending on conditions. You don't want to dry them too fast.
Lets say 12-13 weeks from clone to chopped and dried!
If you cure then another 30days - 60days. If you leach them before harvest you can cut that time down considerably.
Curing is personal preference. It wasn't a common thing in commercial grows pre legalisation. Even in Amsterdam.

Trimming after harvest is a matter of experience and how extreme you want to trim. I probably wet trim about a pound in 5-6 hours with just a pair of scissors. Again its strain dependant, some strains have a low ratio of leaf some are the opposite.

20 years ago it was common practice to veg for 8 weeks and flower for 8 weeks. That was pre internet and folk just learned off some dodgy guy they knew.
If you wanted to fill your tent with 4 plants from seed then you may well be looking at 4months plus.
