5x5 Grow tent diy led cob lighting

new to the forum here (1st post)

Anyways let me get right down to it. I'm about to DIY a citizen CLU048 build in my 5x5 apollo grow tent and would love to hear thoughts/advice good or bad.

Build will be (2) separate fixtures each housing (2) drivers (8 cobs and dimmable through a single potentiometer.

Sourced from cobkits
(16) Citizen CLU048 1212 cobs
(16) ideal chip holders, adapters and 90* Angelina reflectors
(16) 133mm passive pin anodized heatsinks
(4) Meanwell HLG-185H-C1400B drivers
(2) potentiometers
(2) 10a fused power cords

I'm probably shy by about (4) cobs for the tent but plan on building a 3rd fixture when my budget allows it. Both fixtures are already running me just under $1,000. This is my first grow and first build! Pretty excited to get these G13 and Wonder Woman seeds growing. Please leave me some feedback, thanks.

All CLU048 cobs will be 3000k. I plan to use this 5x5 as my flower tent once I get a perpetual grow system rolling in the near future. Will veg and bloom for my first grow though.

I will eventually catch my stride experimenting with different grow mediums and all that. As for this grow my plan is to use fox farms soil In 3-5gal pots. Probably going to give the manifold technique a shot. I'd love to see upwards of 2# dry. Will veg just long enough for them to recover from topping/training then flower. looking at 12 plants maybe more

You wont need anymore cobs bud.. 16 over 25 sq/ft is tons.. Unless your trying to save as much electricity as possible and run them very soft.. But it will take U years of electricity savings to get that money back on 9 more chips and drivers.. Unless your power is very very expensive.. You will do ver well with that setup bud.. Did u get the 90cri's

Thanks Jimmyclone42, I'm in Nevada so power isn't expensive. Wanted led for efficiency and pretty much a hobby on top of the grow hobby haha. I am ordering this stuff tonight actually and I had planned on the CLU048 1212 3000k 80cri. Do you recommend the 90's and if so what's the reasoning? Thanks

Edit: forgot about the watts... it'll be roughly 50w per cob.

I have 1212 80's. If I did it over, I would get 90's. Read through some threads here and you can see why.

i will give it a search and see what I can dig up. I could have sworn that growmou5 preferred the 80cri and he seems to know his shit! None the less I'll do a bit of homework before I place my order tonight. Thanks for the heads up OM

I would get 90cri hands down bud.. Check dawgs 1812 3500k 80cri vs 1812 3500k 90cri thread, here in the led section.. 90 kills it, bigger flowers and 2 week faster finish time.. I think growmou5 adds far red single diodes to alot of his builds, if you grab 90cri u dont need them.. I have 16 vero29's 3500k 80cri and ive already swapped 4 out for 2700k/90's.. If i could go back, i would do all 3000/90cri.. Seen great things from thay spectrum..

Both final weights haven't been posted yet, but even if there equal the 90's finish first..

Check the red peak on the 80

Around 600nm ish

Now check the 90cri

Peaking at 630 ish..
If u check dawgs thread u will see that it shows a lower par on his meter, but man do they grow a bigger, faster plant..
Alot of the older and cheaper par meters are not really designed for white leds.. There is a apogee mq-500 now that is geared more towards white leds, it would be interesting to see the results with that meter in a similar test...

To me 3000k/90 is the sweet spot..

I read multiple threads on 80 vs. 90cri and I'm pretty much sold on the 90! I think your right about the 3000k 90cri being the sweet spot. Couldn't find more than a few CLU048 1212 90's in stock anywhere last night though. I am considering using 1216 instead. From my understanding it's still a 36v cob but just newer tech (more strings of led etc) They cost $5 more ea. than the 1212. Hope they are worth it

Yes the 1216 are the new ones, more efficient and a little less forward voltage..
You will be happy with those bud..
