800m3/h exhaust fan on a 600m3/h carbon filter...


Tent > Filter > Ducting > Air Cooled Hood > Ducting > Air Cooled Hood > Ducting > Fan > Ducting (Out)

I know you're not meant to oversize your fan, but I was thinking that the fan, even running at full speed, would surely have dropped about 25% of it's power having had to draw through a filter, duct work and two air cooled hoods...

This took a long time to work out the actual CFMs from my exhaust fan using a variac controller, I know I could
just get a 800m3/h filter but wanted to know if my thinking was sound...

try 160v and then smoke a doob and see if it smells on the exhaust end. Need 2 people if it goes outdoors.

I'm sure running in at 170v, 625m3/h (469m3/h after subtracting resistance), would be fine for the 600m3/h rated carbon filter, if I end up with temperature issues (running two air cooled hoods, so this is more summer temperatures) I wanted to be able to crank up the exhaust fan to maximum and know that I wouldn't be sucking air through the filter too fast.

I suppose the best solution here is to get the higher rating carbon filter to be 100% sure that the fan won't be maxing it out. I would hate for the sake of £15 / $30 compromise the stealth of the setup.
