yeah, so im a little excited today. an awesome package made it to my door from overseas, and past customs w/o any issues. 5 barneys farm Laughing Budda (fem), and 5 Pineapple Chunk (pineapple express X Cheese X skunk) (fem). i cant wait. i talked to my old CG about popping them, seen a few threads on here, and both have way different teks. he says drop in seed starter trays w/dome, some of you guys say to soak in water for 24hrs, drain, soak again for 24 hrs, drain 1/2 water out, then........ (had to go to work and didnt save the thread). gonna score a seed starting kit tomorrow from HTG (domed, heating pad, inserts), unless others have a better way?

calling my buddy to get some Pineapple express clones untill the beans are popped and sprouting. i cant wait. ill get a journal going as soon as i get my first clone, or beans going.

the only thing better than this is a REDWINGS Stanley Cup Championship in 2013!!!!! :D

There's many different ways to do it. Personally I use rockwool cubes. I soak the cubes overnight in water and a conditioning solution (not sure that is even necessary). Then I plunk the seeds in to the cubes and put them in my dome. I have only ever had one seed not germinate out of hundreds (literally) that I have popped. You should see them sprout with 24-48 hours. Resist the temptation to fuck with them if you don't see the sprout right away ..... it will come.

Best of luck bro!

It may not be wise to treat seeds exactly as you might cuts/clones, as beans are much heartier from the get go. I'd hold off on the heat personally and the dome may be overkill as well IMO :bigjoint:

I agree TheMan13. You could probably toss the fuckers in your backyard and they would sprout.

This is one area where I don't think you need to be fancy.

Don't overthink it...

Most people sprout in paper towels on a plate covered with aluminum foil and placed in a warm spot til they get a little "tongue' sticking out-- then plant in whatever medium you plan to use with the sprout down, and the seed just barely showing at "soil level" and under a light (we just use a 100w CFL in a clamp-light!) they'll be up and sprouted in no time!!

If this is your 1st grow-- try the links below for some easy basics.... ;) have fun!!!

Direct plant 'em sideways, before germination, into a cube or medium and not too deep. Moist!! heat mat good, but risky w dome. It it a "tongue" or a tail? How about seed radicle?

bout the only "special" thing i do is soak'em till they drop to the bottom of my shot glass . right into light warrior in peat pots(or jiffy pellets in a tray if i'm popping alot) in a warm area. keep them moist not soaked and voila....babies

I call it a "tongue" because of how short the sprout is at that point- some people let the "tail" get so freaking long they break it off when planting-- or it is longer than the depth of the root-cube!!

And if he's never sprouted a seed- you REALLY think he- or ANY newbie is going to know WTF a the Radicle IS??? (The embryonic part of the seed as it begins to grow and emerges from the shell- yes- I have 2 years of Botany too... Congrats on your vocabulary- but -2 points for stupid assumptions!)

Yeah keep em wet and warm. And if that fails don't be afraid to help crack em.
The best pheno I have ever found in seed it did not want to crack on it's own, after
a week of not opening I took a razor and opened it up just a smidge.

thanks guys, i remember 8th grade biology.....a little. you guys are awesome. cant wait to get these cracked and in some soil. i did alot of reading and searching when i was off work for 2 months in the beginning of the year, ect. wrote down alot of info about temps, humidity, up-potting, bug issues, and tent set-up. i was planning on running clones from a buddy, so i didnt do any reading on seed germination. now back to the reading and searches and what you guys posted up.

I did:

pinch them gently to see if it cracks (dried out dead or fresh alive)
glass of clean water at room temperature, throw in seeds and place glass somewhere high
seeds that sank absorbed what they need and started sprouting roots (~24 hours)
as soon as I saw insy tinsy roots, I took them out and potted them in small pots at couple mm depth with slight coverage above it
from here temps of 78 / 79 F or 25 / 26 C with a humidity of 60 / 70 % were maintained till repotting
I kept an eye on the bottom of the small pots to repot them as soon as I saw any roots coming from under the small pots, this in order not to block the main roots downward growth
the stretch was leveled after a repotting

Got this info derrived from quite a few topics here on RIU too, simple, effective.

read a few teks on germinating beans.

drop beans in glass of water (tap ok to use)
soak for up to 2-2 1/2 days max untill they pop and show a sprout
remove from cup, place on wet paper towel (folded) on a plate using water from glass. cover plate w/another plate or bowl to produce humidity/moisture
24hrs later, check for sprout growth. when sprout reaches 5cm or so, plant in 1st container. either solo cup (w/drain holes) or small planter w/medium
medium used was FFOF and water a little.

*is FFOF safe for sprouting seedlings, or would light warrior be better. i already have FFOF for clones i was going to get. buy can buy other medium for seedlings.
also, at this point in time, do i then put in tent with light on? running 600w dimmable ac cool tube (tent temps are 75-77*max, current humidity is 24%). if so, what height should the light be away from the top of the planters? and what % light output should it be?

gonna drop the seeds in the water tonight and get things rolling.

I forgot where I read it, but it mentioned having the water at room temperature ~72F ~22C, the absorbtion went quicker/normal and should be possible to have it take in 24 hours.
Having lower temperatures simply slowed the process.
There was a tip with placing the glass higher somewhere, where it overnight it would stay warm as warmth rose up.

Not sure if its true but it sure worked for me, after 36 hours of placing them in the water I had them in the soil, 5 days later they had all come top side :)

make rockwool wet, put seeds in rockwool, put inside a propagator in a dark place they will germinate in 1-3 days
should be under the light as soon as they sprout keeps them from stretching, no need for cocktail stick supports lol

i always sprout more than i need, that way i have enough to only keep the most healthy vigorous seedlings

peace

auto, so you basically did it the way i posted above? what soil did you use after they sprouted? dimmed, light height?

In the smaller pots there was 1 that really stretched alot, I knew that during during transplant I would level it and figured to let it hang a bit over the ground and move in the fan.
A couple weeks later that plant had the strongest and thickest stem.

thanks everyone. got a grow journal going (at leat i think i did it right).

popped them in h2o 5/3 at 5pm
24hrs later only 2 popped.
moved to tupperware and papertowels and placed on suround receiver for heat. good humidity/moisture.
checked this am. 5/5 LB popped about 2-3mm
2/5 PC popped about 2mm

giving them another 24hrs, then they get potted in FF light warrior. at least the ones that popped. the others i guess ill just have to wait and see what happens. the potted ones will go in my tent (veg if i dont get my PE clones, or flower tent if i get them), and a dual 4' daylight bulbs shop light will supply the light source. ambient tent temps are 70*, so might have to put a warmer blanket in there. or i can use my dimmable 600w cool tube for light and heat (w/o fan on, or on about 30%)
