A Tale of two Thais and G13

Thank you for the kind words, prostheticninja. The MamaThai x Pineapple Chunk and the MamaThai x ThaiStik seeds came from a grower/breeder in the cold north of Canuckistan. Canadians grow some great weed! And the Thaibodian Skunk seeds (BOEL Skunk x Johnny D from Golden Coast Genetics are both old-school Hawaiian strains) came to me via Hawaii. The BOEL Skunk is also known as Brotherhood '79 Skunk.
Ain't that the truth. I'm about three hours from the border, if the roads are bare. My travels in the North are mainly limited to border towns, but I have definitely gotten some righteous smoke there. The kind you really wish you didn't have to just smoke through, before crossing the border again lol.

Sounds like some interesting crosses though. The Brotherhood cut has be curious. I might have to do some research on that. Is it related to The Brotherhood of Eternal Love like Exodus Cheese is related to the Exodus commune?

Here's a synopsis I wrote. Some parts are blatantly and shamelessly plagiarized.

"Some of you might be old enough and worldly enough to fondly remember the acid days of the 60s. One of the chief purveyors and manufacturers of LSD was the Brotherhood of Eternal Love with their "Orange Sunshine" blotter, often freely gifted to encourage "enlightenment". There's a semi-documentary movie by the same name which is the story of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love - a spiritual group of surfers and hippies in California who became the world's largest suppliers of LSD.

Skunk. Very few other words can conjure up such a strong smell association. The history of skunk weed is hotly contested in some circles. Sam "The Skunk Man" developed and christened the first Skunk #1 strains in the mid-70s, but others claim that 'Skunk' was initially a name for a strong smelling line of hybridised and acclimatised pure sativas grown in California by the Mother Earth communes in the mid to late 60s and also by the Brotherhood of Eternal Love, predominantly in Hawaii.

Regardless the truth of that bit of history it's accepted that the old BOEL skunk strain has been continuously grown in the islands since then, albeit hybridized/crossed/mutated/bastardized and otherwise altered by the vagaries of time. This Golden Coast Genetics strain utilizes a cross of BOEL Skunk, otherwise known as Brotherhood '79 Skunk.

Johnny or Johnny D, the other genetic strain in this cross, is an old-time strain that was bred in Hawaii and is a cross of Thai and Cambodian sativas. It's been an island staple for many years but it too has changed over time.

So this is supposedly a skunky Hawaiian sativa crossed with other Hawaiian-developed sativas, but given that the young leaves are short and fat as hell I'm thinking that an Afghan worked it's way into the genetics somewhere along the line. I've seen pics of this strain from growers in the islands and even though at first it looks like an Afghan the sativa kicks into high gear during flowering. It'll be fun to see how it grows out for me."

Sad night last night. I enjoyed the grow immensely and had fun experimenting with EtOH extraction and dry ice keif collection. I kept out a bit of bud for personal use and destroyed the rest of the bud, keif, and CCO by contaminating it with gasoline. The state sets possession limits that, even with a doc's prescription, doesn't take into account a bumper crop of this magnitude. Maybe someday that'll change but until then I don't want to end up being Big Bubba's cellmate.

Why wouldn't you just give it away?

Legality issues. My attorney is working on it but there doesn't seem to be a provision in law for donations to other medical users, and giving it to recreational users is a no-go because the state wants its tax dollars. It's all about the money with government. If they're getting it, they're cool. If not, you're a criminal.

Government doesn't care if you're giving it away or selling it. Your profit or loss is of no concern. But anything that moves outside of their revenue stream is going to throw up red flags and get their attention. I just want to stay out of the crosshairs.

Wow, I've been pretty lame at keeping up on this grow journal. Lots has happened/changed/grown/whatever. I bailed on the DIY glycol chiller and bought a res chiller. The peace of mind was worth it. Moved the grow to somewhere a bit bigger, which was a pain in the ass. Both tents are rocking so I'll just post a few pics rather than talk your ears off.

I’m running the big tent at 80-84F, 65-75%rH, and about 1200ppm CO2. The lights are set for about 1000ppfd. These plants are 37 days since breaking ground at the time of this photo taken yesterday and had already been stripped hard once.

The BOEL Skunk x JohnnyD’s Cambodian is coming along nicely. I let the other Thais go too long in veg. Won’t make that mistake with these. View attachment 4053807
@Rider509 can you tell me about those strip lights? is it a diy? I am looking for supplemental periphery lighting for my cmh. Do the come a single? thanks Alta nice job btw.
