About to start my first grow EVER (with an autoflower)

Hey forumers!

This forum has given me so much information on growing that I just had to sign up and connect with some of you. I should have registered a long time ago..

Anyways, I just placed my order for 3 Northern Lights autoflowering seeds from a reliable vendor and should take about 3 more weeks to get here. I made sure I did a lot of basic research on cultivating marijuana before even ordering my seeds. I have just a couple of questions for you guys if you could help :)

First of all, I live in Florida, and even though it's late in the year I'm confident that my grow will be successful. I have a greenhouse that I grow tomatos, basil, and other vegetables and I want to include my autoflowers to the bunch. I'll be planting each seed in a 3 gallon bag, using Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil mixed with just a little extra perlite.

One thing that I am nervous about is giving nutrients to my plants, so I'm going to test out different (recommended) nutrients on one single plant to compare differences. I was thinking about using BioBizz Bio-Bloom.

Are there any suggestions that you guys would like to make for a first time outdoor grower with autoflowers? I'd also like to answer any questions you have for me so that I can see if I'm doing anything wrong.

THank you :)

What I tell all new growers is to pop about a dozen bag seeds a week before your bought seeds. They will allow you to learn a lot before you do any harm to the good seeds. With the time of year, they will be just like autos. Flowering as soon as they reach sexual maturity. {you will have to weed out the males}

How far south are you? I'm up here in NW Florida near Interstate 10. I grow outdoors in winter, with some losses to frost. If you are far enough south, you could kill it in the winter. Especially with the greenie.

Good luck and welcome to RIU.

I would stick with one nute brand. If you end up having a deficiency or toxicity it could be difficult to pinpointing the exact problem.... Greenhouse growing is pretty awesome. When they start getting bigger they drink a lot of water per day. If you're grow bags are on the ground, you can't really over water, the ground absorbs excess moisture. Once heavy per day or twice and lighter. Bump your perlite up to 25%. Autos grown this time of year will finish faster because they can sense how the days are getting shorter rather than longer. Happy growing.

Okay, I'm going to up my perlite as I was going to use a lot less than that. I think I'll start with using just BioBizz products. Thanks for your suggestions!

Hey man

I live on the east coast about halfway down the state. I was worried about frost and considered buying a frost blanket just in case. Usually, the bud I get over here doesn't have seeds and last week I found a premature seed, tried to germinate & failed.

Do you grow autos successfully throughout our entire winter season?

Never done the autos, but anything will flower this time of year. {A regular seed planted now has 6 months until the days get over 12 hours again}

I did a handful of fall/winter plants, and a dozen or so in my Spring crop. I did lose 12 other young plants to frost. Had some frost damage on all the plants. I used the white frost cloth later on, and it helped a lot. They say it's alright for the plant to touch the cloth, but the tip buds were burned by the frost. That was 25F though. I doubt you will get temps like that where you are.

Also once you're plants get bigger, don't move them. The roots will go through the grow bag and into the ground. They don't go too far if they're not searching for food. But you will shock your plants if you move them and there's roots in the ground. Not something you want to do at week 5 of flower.
