Aerogarden Round 3: Lowryder #2

Whats up all?!

Well 2 weeks ago I got my aerogarden pro 200 in the mail and a couple weeks before that I got some Lowryder #2 seeds from dope-seeds.com.
It only took 10 days to arrive and I live in the states. The package wasn't too discreet but hey it worked!

Anyways... its been exactley 2 weeks since i popped the seeds in and they took off quick! I've got a pretty simple setup using 4 100 watt equvilent CFLs, 2 are red spectrum and 2 are blue...plus the three aerogarden lights...and of course the fox farm line of nutes....

Not much else to say I've got some pics here of what it looks like so far...

The plant in the back left has some spots which I believe is due to PH problems during the first week, thats straightened out now, it's got a 100 watt equivelent red spectrum light right up on it....Or it could just be the typical discoloration that occurs somtimes on the first few sets of leaves when using the aerogarden..

The plant in the back right has got the 100 watt equivelent blue spectrum like right up on it and seems to be growing faster than it can keep up with itself...

The one in the front center is doing fantastic...

Take a look for yourself....

Thanks
Peace

awesome! the 3-plant arrangement was the exact way i was going to plant mine on trial #2... I love the way you have the 4 evenly spaced lights hung also! I am thinking of adding that on as well now!

to answer your question about how I suspended the top of my ag... yes I drilled holes in the top black shell. first you have to take out the bulbs, then use a phillips screwdriver to remove ~10 screws... after that drill an appropriately sized hole using the plastic-mold's dots as a guideline (this way you don't have to measure..)

ty & good luck!

Yea I've been using nutes, contrary to what I've heard a few times about not using them for the first few weeks... I've done it like this a few times before and they turned out fine but maybe thats why the discoloration....

Tek,

I'm about a month into my first aerogarden grow thanks to the knowledge gained from you, Dave, Wow, etc. I bought the fox farm nutes, the EC meter, airstone, fan, ph test, extra cfl 150 watt lights...I mean I'm trying to get this right the first time.

The only problem I have had so far is the same brown spotting on early leaves that you are showing in your picture. Those leaves eventually just dry out and flake off. Fortunately, there is new leaf growth on all plants which looks real healthy and I have even moved my biggest one to a home made bubbler.

I've been driving myself crazy trying to identify the cause for that brown spotting. There's a ridiculous amount of conflicting advice that I've found on the various boards. The most likely cause that I have determined from my own research is that it is a phosphorus deficiency caused by a nutrient lockout from too high ph. I test ph using the GH drops and thought I would be fine with a yellow reading of 6.0 - 6.5. I'm now finding that this problem seems to improve at a lower ph (orange) reading of 5.0 - 5.5.

I first thought it looked like pictures of nute burn, even though I went with about one quarter of the Fox Farm recommended dosage and EC level. However,I changed/flushed the reservoir and used zero nutes with some fresh seedlings and the exact same browning occurred. That's why I think it's the ph.

I'm growing from good (unidentified) bag seed, and this has been the only problem so far.

Hope it goes good from here and thanks again for all the advice.

Yea, I've had this problem before and it seems to only affect the first few sets of leaves then it works itself out....I know of others who have used the aerogarden and had the same occurence....maybe a lower ph of 5-6 would be a way to stop it from happening or not using any nutes for the first week or 2...

But thanks for the comment and good luck

I use a pH of 5.8 and i check the pH every morning and top off the rez with pH adjusted distilled water only. I started feeding my seedlings 1/4 strength Foxfam nutes with Liquid Carma and SubCulture 4-7 days after sprout and then building up to 1/2 strength the next week and then full strength the following week. I clean the rez every time i change the nutes. My plants have done very, very well using this method. I also have a air stone in both of my AG PRO 200 rez's. I am using my AG's for starting my seedlings and vegging a couple mothers and clones. Once my mothers get large enough i will start taking clones and move them after a short veg to my 2x2 ebb and flood tray with a 400w Super HPS for flowering the clones using the SOG method.

So I'm hoping to get a male plant out of my lowryder #2's because I'd love to get a bunch of lowryder #2 seeds out of this....It's such a cool plant/strain....

I've only grown 2 times before this and have never seen growth like this...

I dont know if it's cause of this strain or my new lighting setup or both but it's pretty cool...

It's been 16 days and yesterday I'm pretty sure I spotted a very tiny female flower on the one in the center...

Such a cool strain...

Anybody know a sure fire method to get a male?

Thanks

Whats up Tek....I'm on my first aero grow and I got to thank u and the guys for all the input....Now to answer your question about getting a male....According to Jorge Cervantes there are alot of ways to produce males...1-Warm temperatures make more male plants...2- Low humidity increases male plants...3-More Red light increases male tendencies....4-Longer days (e.g. 18 hours) makes more male plants...5-and finally the big one for me was: Any stress tends to yield more male plants... All this is when growing from seed....I hope this helps you out a bit since you were gracious to help everyone else....Holla:blsmoke:

Thanks, buddy...

What would be a good way to stress only one plant thats in the exact same environment as the hopefull females i.e. aerogarden setup...

Maybe to moderatley cut fan leaves from early age every so often? making sure not to cut too much and kill the plant...

what do you think?
Thanks again
