After harvesting seeds, how long before germinating them

Was wondering how long should i wait before germinating seeds after I harvest them. I germinated seeds before that were only 5 days old with success but, this was only one seed from a herm plant. I heard if you germinate them too early the plant might grow weak n sick etc etc. So how long do you recomend I leave and dry the seeds before germinating them?

This is how I did mine, from reading many different articles and posts....

I gave them 30 days to dry out then I put them in the fridge for 2 weeks.
I tested 15 or so and 100% germ rate.

cool thnx brother

btw, what up with that fridge method, some kind of hormone, enzyme trick on the uncracked seed?
like fooling it that the winter has passed or something?

I let my seeds dry for 60 days no fridge time and get nearly 100%. After 90 days you should get 100% most of the time if you use good seeds.i like to let mine dry for 6 months before i jar 'em. Then i keep the seeds in packages at room temp in a sealed jar and they last for yrs. Started some seeds that were 8 yrs old and still got about 80% germ results.
