See my oasis cubes above?
That little trick having your oasis or rockwool cubes sitting on some perlite let's the roots grow out of the bottom of the cubes rather than being air-pruned. Then you just separate your cubes, shake the perlite off and drop them right on the bottom of your NFT channels :hump:
Mr. OneHitDone,

I would like to thank you for your idea. It was a damn good one. I pulled my lettuce today out of my germination area and put them into the NFT channels .They were in the nursery for about 4 weeks total. They had great root structure i also added 220 more watts to my NFT table as well. So i now have 28 , 4ft - 22w 6500k leds strips in there. Thats covering a 4x8 area. I hope to hell that works.

Rebuilt 90cm Cidly Aquabar using 3 cree cxb2530 3000k 90cri chips sharing a 60w 1400ma power supply. Each chip getting just under 500ma. Passively cooled.

Planted Rhazes lettuce last friday in no nutrient potting soil with some crushed oyster shells added. 6 are up today, most just breaking the soil.

Measured with my phone at surface of soil is 12,500 lux.

my first couple of crops had a lot of tip burn. I am working harder on getting my nutrients correct and stable. My 110 gallon tank seems to help, as far as light goes, has anyone figured out the proper lighting for lettuce?

I had one head I had under 3000k and it grew like crazy, but the leaves are really thick, it would make a great wrap if that's your thing.

maybe give them more light? not sure, i'm a lettuce assassin, so i really shouldn't be doling out advice.
I think I fucked up the germination or may have drown some of them - I was really slack on the germinating, left some of them too long in the domes.

I'm working on building a germinater - once I get that I think it will be more like clockwork.

Also, some of the containers are using regular all purpose plant food and other are using a mix of an organic nutrient.

I'm going to get good at growing these though I'll tell you that much.

for nutrients try this stuff.

https://hydro-gardens.com/product/tomato-formula-25lbs-bag-4-18-38/
https://hydro-gardens.com/product/calcium-nitrate-25lb-bag-cano3x25/
https://hydro-gardens.com/product/magnesium-sulfate-2gal-pail-mgso4-2/

They have a lettuce formula too, also in smaller amounts. Its quite a bit cheaper then the bottled stuff.

@OneHitDone had a great idea for germination, he had me put my rockwool over vermiculite (or perlite) it made great roots. my plants are doing much better now, then my first couple of runs.

To Update my Organic Nitrogen trial: it went down in flames :fire:

The first 48 hours or so I got some crazy bacterial fermentation head on the res and the a burst of root growth but then nothing....
This was a soy protien amino based nitrogen I was trying to use. Probably great on soil or maybe even coco but a flop in water :cuss:
