I already posted about this but i guess it was in the wrong place cause no one replied, so here goes again.

Ive got 2 plants both are the same age approx. 2 months and about the same height, about 1 ft. The odd thing is that only 1 of them has develped this problem. Starting between the 3rd and 4th leaf sets the stem has turned a purple hue, which streatches down the brances but not into the leafs, they are still as green as ever. Is this something to worry about? If so, how can i solve this problem. Thanks for all your input.

well some ppl say its coz of low temperatures,in the dark period usually, but it could just be strain,if your plant still looks healthy then i wouldnt worry about it.

yea some of my friends said it might just be some good strain but it was just a seed i picked out of a sack of some good pine i came across. But i guess it its strain then horray.

Purple "stripes" on the stems is normal for a lot of strains, it doesn't make it a "purple" strain tho. However, solid purple stems can be a different situation.. purple in not always a good thing... pix?

Does it look male or female. I know this pic doesnt pertain to the original thread but ive got some doubts and want to clear them up.

Cant tell from this picture, you need to take closeup pics of the genitals. Also that doesn't look old enough to show signs yet.

Too soon, first signs of sex will show usually on the 5th node, sometimes the 4th or 6th.. but even on those nodes they usually won't appear until 3-4 weeks old minimum (sometimes some people can't verify sex until weeks into flowering).

whynot??

purple stem is caused by to much pottassium, the 2nd # in your fert mix, just cut back on that and it should stop, could just be the plant telling you its ready to go into bud to therefore its just stocking up on pottasium, not a big problem but can cause nutrient lockout

Could be pottasium build up but more then likely as stated before its just the particular plant trait.I find in my indicas I get purple stalks on some branches or leave stalks.Watch the plant and see if the leaves get any issues and yes that plant unless its a clone is to young to sex.Usually shows 7-12 days into 12/12 light

Well theres no change in the purpling stem this morning. They've been outside over night in the cooler weather and i figured if it was temp related thing id see more purple developing but alas there is none, guess its nothing to worry about.

hey man i got a 6 mothers that are about 12-14 weeks old and they are all huge, from what i can tell about them, it just seems like the higher up branches, like new growth, are the stems that are purple, i dont worry about it, i just figure it supposed to happen, like purple stems from clones or seedlings, also you wont be able to tell sex till youve been flowering for a few weeks, and ull know if its male or female, its really quite obvious, anyways i wouldnt worry about the purple in the stems

You can tell sex before flowering. The plant shows its sex when it's sexually mature...

i thought that was only in strain specific plants....some strains will flower auto matically at a predetermined age, others wont show sex until you force flower them,at least thats what ive read and heard, some people say you can tell by the preflowers or something but i dont really know shit about that so...idk

they are called preflowers...but i initiate flowering before my plants are "sexually mature" so I know the sex of my plants after i switch the lights.

yea your fine its just a temperature issue try to keep the temps the same for a week or so and see if the purple goes away, sometimes some branches will be green while others are completely purple. its all due to temp change, maybe its too hot during the day but too cold at night, or just way too cold at night, anyways its nothing to really worry about your plant looks nice any healthy. sometimes plants actually just have some purple stems.

it depends on the strain, preflowers show up alot on plants that bud on outer branches verses the main stem, in females that is. but yes some plants do show sex while still in veg, but, BUT that doesnt mean its flowering, you still have to induce flowering by switching the lights to 12/12 to actually get that plant to flower, it wont just flower on 18/6, 20/4, 24/0 etc. it will just keep growing vegetatively.
