Only another week before flip, its just past a month, I wanted to do it when all the canopy's were full...but that's how it goes I've been waiting for the SE HPS area. The signs are great for all grow from all lights. But if you were to guess the Hot spot thats a fun game to play. Pictures are underneath.

It's good that you did the par #'s n all but I was wondering why you didn't veg the HPS side under MH? Those plants would look much better & get significantly higher yields if you had.
People don't veg under HPS full cycle like some do w/ 35k cobs.

IMO to be fair on a side by side there are 2 ways of doing it.

1: only flower
2:veg and flower.

Why? Because if I can use the same actual light to do both that costs even less, is less work, and proves one is better than the other. If I were growing in a 4x4 for self use I'd much rather get 3 200watt LED that can go strait from veg to flower than buy 1 HPS and a veg bulb that runs 1k watts.

Commercial it's whatever you want as you should have a veg/flower room so do your lights however you like imo.

I say all this because one of the things I don't like in discussing led vs hps is that it's never ever ever ever fair. HPS guys (not calling you one) want to compare 1 light vs multi lights as annoying despite a better spread of par, they also like to compare 1k watts HPS vs 500/600watts LED. I even had a guy ask me if you can put LED 4 feet over plants like gavitas and still get good par... I was like sure but the reason you run HPS so high is not because HOPS is good, it's to deal with heat and bleaching. The whole point is efficiency, as all other markets have gone through that phase where as marijuana is still using dinosaur grow tactics that if they don't change I honestly don't see them in business in 5 years.

If LED's can save you mass money on Utilities, far less heat, better light to work under and see your plans and problems you might and will in fact have. If LED can be built for near what HPS lights costs (as we are doing)... If you can stack beds in flower with LED because of the efficiency of vertical space, less humidity, less watering and so on... If LED in just a few short years can make a 1k sqft grow space grow as much as a 2k sqft HPS space while keeping all bills equal (outside of rent), then you have to consider everything.

I'd bet he could scrog, and do 2 grows on top of one another with the cobs run less hard and produce far more in that tent than the HPS ever could.

Just my thoughts!

So, you've never grown under hps I take it?

Perhaps but that's just how I grow, This might not be the best side by side possible, but it will still give you a good idea of what these lights do.

I will be veging in a different room next time with 300W of COBs, we will see what I come up with but it will be a good setup after I get it set up. The yield for the total will be well over 4lbs I'm not doubting that. Just enough to pay off a room of lights but I do anticipate quite a bit more.

Yeah MH will work but the point was how the light does by itself full cycle for referance.

Nobody uses hps for full cycle though & for good reason. (Unless only a 2 wk veg) Maybe 35k cobs but Never hps.
Hps is now starting w/ a huge disadvantage.
Using T-5 on everything would've been given much more accurate results.
All this does is show how well cobs work & how bad hps is. Totally not fair.
Poeple need to see an accurate side by side, start to finish, otherwise their opinions are skewed from the get & they will not learn the truth.
What do you think would've happened by this stage in the game had you used MH?

If you wanted to run a fair test w/o trying to put cobs ahead of the game or have them blown away before flower even starts, you'd have vegged them all under the same source, no matter what you choose.

Hey I get .8G/W with DE HPS full cycle so I cant knock it... Since Ive actually used it, thats what Im comparing my results to. Might re run the test with the same VEG while I flip these to flower, then We can see HPS by itself and in full cycle to see if there is any real advantage.

The few growers I talk to in my town all use HPS all the way through....Although I think its mostly because they are cheap and lazy. But they still do it and get decent results from it.

^ exactly. I've not had any issues doing it and have had better results than people that have used MH. Would mine be better with MH? Possibly, but I don't know for sure

so i think what hybrid is saying is they should all be vegged under mh or t5 so we can get a better idea because 90% or more of us veg under those 2 types, not hps.personally if your doing side by sides the plants should all be vegged together under one type light and all be the same clone and pruned the same, and all be healthy.then flowered at the same time under the various lamps.thats the only way to show what each light will do.i watched your vid and it looks like you have a great setup to do this for us with all those divided sections to flower in.its just some of those plants look way dif and theres def variations in plant health from section to section.either way it looks like you will have a shitload of work trimming all those nugz haha.ill be watchin how these finish bro, nice work on the video also.you sound fine, everyone thinks they sound goofy when they hear a recording of themselves lol

Thanks for the feed back, I'll probably end up re running the test before I throw away the HPS, you're right though I should just do it with all the same genetics and same Veg light. That way I can see if veging with a different light will get better number or if that's more weed science compared to actual. But I would guess that it does make a difference.

The trimming will take forever lol

First day of FLOWER 12/27/16.

The DE HPS pushed out some crazy size this last week or so, should be an interesting 2 months.
The COBs are going well also The canopy is obviously more even given the obvious light layout.
The HPS is also pushing the area a bit more but the left bottom isnt there yet, I would guess it will fill in as it goes through flower.

This was a 1 Month and 5 Day Veg.

Thats about all thats new other than making an awesome cloner.
