i had to shorten you quote so i could reply. i think i paraphrased you pretty well.
in response, good story. The fact is that abolishing slavery being incidental to the war was i think perverted in your story however. Slavery was seen by the north as unproductive to the nations economy. By the south it was seen as necessary or advantageous. that was one of the main points of contention btwn the N and S . As well as the North generally wanting the federal government to have more rights and therefore more power than the states. The part about how the slaves where actually freed after the war was true. Many former saves stayed on for inadequate wages. Many never found their families ect. You began with the fact that the slaves where never meant to be freed . That is true of slavery , The slaves where to be used up and discarded not become citizens but for the wrong reasons and in many cases for the right reasons slavery was halted. America was not the first or the last to abolish slavery as a nation. Portugal, Brittan Scotland, much later Nigeria and in 1948 the UN declared slavery against human rights
