Any Drying/Curing Tips to Avoid harsh tasting weed??.....


I seem to always end up with harsh weed. I've read up on the temps and humidity levels, the hanging upside down with fan blowing in a dark cool place for 3 days until brittle then putting in paper bags for another couple of days...My weed usually takes about 7days from cut-down to jar. I always flush REALLY GOOD about 1 week prior to harvest. Is there something Im just missing or is there a better way?

Flush for 2 weeks before harvest.
Leave most of the fan leaves and ALL of the sugar leaves on the branches; the more plant material drying along with your buds the longer the drying phase will take.
Removing most of the leaves and trim prior to drying has a tendency to cause a hay taste and smell.
The slower the dry, the smoother the final product.
Leaving the leaves also helps a lot with the terpenes and final aroma of your bud.
I don't advise using a fan, as it may dry your buds too quickly.
Hang branches upside down in a dark cool place.
Wait until your stems are easily snapped to end the drying process, then trim and throw the buds in jars to cure for a few weeks.

I am guilty of trimming right away before i hang them. It's far more difficult to trim after drying awhile in my experience.

I've also dried buds by lining the bottom of the paper bag with buds, then doubling the bag over.
The bag helps pull moisture out of the buds.
Check them occasionally for stems that easily snap, pull them from the bags, trim and jar em up.
I personally love the way bag dried weed turns out.

I've been there too man, many times. It's more difficult, but is definitely worth it bro. Trim them up a little towards the end of the drying process to help with the final trim.

This is how i harvest dry & cure, nothing special here i just found it works best for my needs.

Make sure the plant has water a day before harvest, you dont want to harvest a dry plant unless you plan to dry in a basement (bad idea)

Chop plants at the base of the stalk an hour before lights turn on

Cut off big leaves that may cause problems (big fans that overlap colas ect) shouldn't be much and some strains wont even need to be touched.

Hang whole plant upside down

50%RH

68-70F

Oscillating fan pointed AWAY from the harvested plants

Dark room with NO UV

Dense or big buds generally take me 12-15 days,smaller airy buds usually 8-12 days all organic. This will vary by bud density/size in relation to your environments temp/RH so be careful. fwiw the window of overdrying a dry trimmed plant is bigger then a wet trimmed plant.

I always read 7-10 days is perfect. sounds like your plants take 12-15 days. Next time i'll shoot for a longer dry and see if it makes a difference. Thanks guy!

I read a grow bible and used a grow tent as my drying room. It has a dehuey, ac in the room and baseboard heat too.
all are set according to any grow bible.
I feed organically, dry crumbles, slow dissolving. I add more weekly and skip the last feeding. I use no sprays or additives, only fresh spring water.
I cut and trim immediately and to the hanging rack they go.

in about a week samples are delicious, another week and stems snap, another couple weeks and its gone.
I would never use a jar(my tent is a giant controlled one). I put anything left over after a month into a jar for oil processing later.
repeat. never had harsh weed, never had mold, never any complaints.
the trek towards good tasting buds begin on the first day of flowering

Curing is all about getting it down to that perfect RH, making sure it's stable and keeping it there.
I personally do this by sweating the buds.
When I feel they're getting close I'll jar it up with a humidity monitor where I can see it. Those giant class containers at Walmart, World Market etc are good for chucking a lot of dope into. You can easily use those digital reptile tank humidity readers from pet shops for it. They're cheap and work for the job.
Anyways chuck the buds in there and they'll sweat the moisture inside to the outside and give you a pretty stable reading for the RH overnight. If it's too high then just dump them out for a few hours and rinse/repeat. If the RH is 80 percent and over I tend to leave em out for 6-8 hours at a time then sweat again. Once it hits the mid to low 70s decrease your time outside of the jars.

60/60 (60°f at 60% humidity) for 12-14 days in dark. If you run a fan make sure there is no direct airflow on the buds. I just remove large fan leaves before hanging. Be sure to do the whole burping process for 2 weeks, I burp jars twice a day for the first day and 1 time a day the last week. Probably the biggest thing is don’t push a ton of N during the grow.
