It sounds like you've done everything you need to do to start. Normally, I would suggest starting with a soil grow, and learn how the plants actually grow before attempting hydro. But if you read enough before you start, you can do well. The system that comes with the HPS sounds fine. Yeah, you could make it yourself for less, but buying a small system will be faster. You could hold off on the halide conversion lamp, just use the HPS. And you don't need an intake fan, buy 1 fan with twice the cfm, because the carbon filter will need it. Then provide ample intake area for passive intake. It all depends on the size of your grow, how many cubic feet will you need to exhaust?

Ok so someone else told me that this NFT system was way over priced, and I that I could build one way cheaper like you suggested. I would want to use my creativeness and build one, instead of buying a complete setup but I just thought for my first hydro grow if I bought one it would give me that much more less of a chance to mess something up.. Someone showed me the GREENMACHINE by futuregarden which is the same to this NFT setup but is a hydro/aeroponics combo system.. He said that for the money this was a better system. SO even though the MH light is recommened for vegetative growth its ok to use the HPS all the way through.. and as far as the room size.. its a spare bedroom so I have a good 10 by 10 room with i think 7-8 foot ceilings.. Plenty of space to work with, is that bad news for the exhaust though?

So your cubic feet is 800, buy a 200-250 cfm blower and exhaust the room, and provide ample space for intake of fresh air.

For the light, the HPS 400w provides more lumens than the HPS 360w Conversion lamp, so go with the HPS throughout.

Thanks, I found some on Ebay for a little more than a hundred bucks.. I also saw a thread on here about makin your own carbon charcoal filter with parts from lowes for under 50.00 dollars. I would be able to attach that to the 250 cfm blower or would it b best to buy one from a store??
