Hard water is caused by excessive levels of calcium and/or magnesium in the water....sorta like acid rain. When it comes to growing pot , these minerals are called the "micro nutes" because you need so little of them. If you google HARD WATER, you can find and buy filtration systems to SOFTEN WATER but there is no quick, easy, good, or cheap way to soften it.
I did many experiments on mixing and apreparing powdered nutes and I was able to write a newsletter about adding nutes. It is posted on my Bubbleponic Thread here on rollitup.
Simply add the nutes to warm water in a jar, and stir like crazy. Then pour them thru a tea strainer or fine wire mesh strainer into a 2nd jar or container. The lumps and granuales that you catch in the strainer should be crushed, and re-mixed again before adding them to the tank.
In the GROW or VEG stage, luke warm water is OK, like a warn summer rain. In the Flowering stage, cooler but not cold water is better.
