I wrote a really long-winded post a day or two ago that got no responses, so maybe I should keep it simple.

Who here uses the Adjust-a-Wing reflector with the super spreader on a 250w, 400w or 600w HPS?

I'm trying to determine how high I'll need to keep my light from my screen, but I'm not looking for estimates.

I'm hoping that someone out there uses the adjust-a-wing as from what i've read it supposed to be the best spreader for keeping your plants as close to the light as possible without burn...

please help!

Well I know you are looking for the adjust-a-wing users, but I think this relates to you. I used to use these small hoods that where probably 18"L 10"W and I thought they where great, but one day I decided to switch to those cheap wing reflectors and what a huge difference they made. My stuff doing everything the same up went up 20%. I don't know about those "high dollar wings" but they don't look much different then the cheap-o ones. I know a lot of peeps use the hoods for venting and such, but I think an A/C would be way better. Everyone has their opinions and don't want to use too much power, but fuck it I let the meter spin so fast it might come off the wall.

THanks for the input, it does help me - with your cheaper wings, were you able to keep the plants closer to the light than the previous hoods you were using?

Does your knock-off adjust-a-wing use a similar type of "spreader" to diffuse heat like the higher priced one does?

I'm just wondering, because although I'm not TOO concerned about price, cheaper is better!

I keep my bulbs about 1' away from the tops, but also I use 1000W HPS which run hot. Then if I need to adjust the wing part on my I just bend it up or down to focus the light more or less as needed. I looked on the web and they look the same to me except the price. Here's what I found check out these links.
I have thought about getting these to help with hot spots from the bulbs, but haven't used them before. Do you know anything about these?

Here's the hoods/wings that I use now and love

Here's the hoods that I used before and they sucked ass

mocha - both of those links only showed a sub-page... what's the make and model of your before and afters?

You can get away with keeping your 1000w 1 foot above your tops without burn?

that super spreader is supposed to be the best thing in the market for preventing hot spots, if i go with these adjust a wings i'm 100% going with it. FYI plantlighthydroponics dot com has them cheaper than that site.

could you give me more specs on your setup? mainly size, ventilation and the specific hoods you used to use and are now using..

thanks mocha

i'm definitely going to check those out then... seems like everything hydrofarm is cheaper than sun supply from ballasts to reflectors to everything... damn, 900 cfm... what type of carbon scrubber your working with, Can fan 66? That's a ton of air to pull through a filter, but then again, you must get a ton of yield :)

I run a Can fan 125. Bigger the better for me. A lot of the stuff you see at the hydro shops are just over priced crap. All ballast for basically the same except digital which I would not use for several reasons. They produce electrical fields that fuck with other electrical stuff. They have a way higher failure rate. The bulbs are where you need to spend money. Don't get sucked in a bunch of gimmick type crap that promises high hopes that will never work. Get good old magnetic ballast with nice bulbs, cheap wing hood, biggest carbon filter that you can fit into your room. The more air you move at a slower rate will get cleaned a way better rate then moving it fast through a smaller filter. You can always get a fan speed control to slow down your motor.
