Are grow tents any good?

I've been thinking how to come up with the ultimate grow box to flower plants in, and I've seen several grow tents for sale on ebay and what not. I was wondering if you RIU'ers could tell me if they are worth buying. I've noticed a few people in here have used them, and they seem like they would work alright. I've been looking at this one here on ebay for $120. I don't think I could beat that with a DIY tent considering how well it seems to be made.

Anyways, it's 48"x48"X78" and I would plan to use 600w or 1000w HPS with a cool tube to flower. I'm just wondering if that would still get too hot. Would the thing have any light leaks?

yeah that will work, i just finished up my tent grow and got 17.5 oz out of it, from what ive seen the only junk tents are the hydrohut ones, they give off gas which kills plants, i had one at first and it almost killed my whole grow then i switched to the secret jardin dr150 and it kicked ass, i used a 600 hps and a 430 son agro both air cooled, when i added the 430 temps were a problem so i added a second inline fan and filter, with that it kept temps within 8 deg above ambient temps so it worked out good, if i were you i would go with 2 600s instead of the 1000, but thats just because i like to have more points of light, plus when the plants get tall your limited of how high you can raise the lights thats why im in favor of using more smaller lamps for tent growing

thanks for the replay fat sam. I'm now looking at a Sun Hut Silver LG instead. This one looks much nicer. Question: are there any issues with wiring a ballast and other stuff from outside the tent? I'm assuming the ventillation holes are the only holes other than the door.

a little more expensive, but quality looks good... and everybodys been happy with them.

they look pretty nice, but what if you wanna mount something on the side like an osc fan... you pretty much have to use they holes they have for all your ventilation as well

maybe you could hang an osc fan from the top?

very nice setup man. that is some bad ass shit. a little bit bigger than what i had in mind, but you could pull some nice rotating harvests out of that baby.

All in all its a very simple set-up, but it works. So far at least.

Should hopefully kick out a nice harvest.

how much did all that cost you?

How many can you fit in there? It looks like about 12 or so?

i have that same one and there are plenty of holes around for you to run wiring thru not only the holes for ventelation good buy

well I did 10 for my first time, but will probably do 16 next. I now have one row of 4 and 2 rows of three, so there's no reason why I can't have 4 rows of 4 next time.
