I've decided screw it after watching the debates I decided to try a hps. Open unused ac room with open closet no in line fans or ducting. If the heat isn't manageable with air and the current ac 70f then it won't work for me. I found this deal. Pics actually both cheaper than the viper 450 that claims to replace a 400hps. I have had tons of input on the led has talk only please. Input on rigs and bulbs Screenshot_2016-08-20-20-06-49.png Screenshot_2016-08-20-20-03-14.png Screenshot_2016-08-20-20-06-49.png Screenshot_2016-08-20-20-03-14.png

appolo's aren't bad ballasts, but i'd probably only buy the ballast and not the bulbs, and spend a bit more and get a better quality bulb.. i know you're working on a budget, if it's that tight, those bulbs probably aren't that bad, but if you can afford it, i'd go with a better bulb like i said..
The 25 bucks I save would afford me the ability to buy bulbs and not exceed my current budget. I'm kinda in an either or deal if the heat is manageable from the hps it will probably stay and the led will go back

yeah, i'd just go for that package deal tbh, it looks like a pretty good deal imo, you get the ballast, two bulbs, i'd think one mh and one hps.. not a bad deal for a hundred some dollars and change..
do you have a hood and all yet? how about a fan? you'll need a can fan with the hps, and more then likely a carbon filter if you're at all worried about the stink and live some where that you can't get away with running without one..

derp, just looked at the pix again and see there's a hood included.. not my fave kind of hood, but for the money, it'd get you through a grow or two before you can get the money together to get a better one..

I want to make it work with just house fans run my cycle at night when the house temp is about 68f. I'm growing blue mystic supposed to be low odor but I'll deal with that when flower comes around. Buthe like I said I have a large empty aced room with three fan and the grow is in the closet

I'll have a fan blowing over the light and out of the closet on pushing air into the closet a box fan and Then a big oscillating fan moving around the air in the room
that'll help for sure.. what i meant to really say was that the sealed hoods like the ones spl was talking about, were designed for a fan and some ducting attached to it on both ends to suck or pull, how ever you hook it up, out the hot air on and around the bulb, which it turn drastically lowers the temps around the bulb, the hottest part in an indoor grow setup..
of course any outside fans or w/e you put into the grow will help with the cooling, it just won't be as effective as running a can / fan and ducting to a sealed hood is all..

There is this one too not to hijack your thread. I have been looking at this one and it seems reasonable plus you get the cool tube, which from what I read is the way to go. Only ten dollars more than the other. So one guy said something about better bulbs, do you recommend hortilux?
I don't mind. I'd like to know as well

yes, i love hotrilux bulbs.. the only problem i've encountered was that i once blew one of the hotrilux blue bulbs in my digital ballast, which was quite the bummer.. i am sure i could have returned it for a new one, but i didn't know that at the time and went out and bought a new one. other than that, i love the hortilux bulbs, especially the blues like i said..
oshio makes some really quality bulbs as well, pricey as all get out mind you, well, not much more than a hortilux blue, and hmm, let me think what else i've used..digilux, made for digital ballasts which fire at a much higher frequency than the old style ballasts, which can be a problem with certain brand bulbs..

If it works and smell becomes a problem with smell I definitely will hoods are cheep but dem filters and fans do wooo

Bit can you use the closed hood without ducting and duct fans?
I guess you could try it first, i run my hoods actively ventilated with 8" ducts completly isolated from the room. I can hold my hand on the glass of a 1000w hid and keep my ambient temps at 82-85f with 300cfm on the hood and exchanging the room air once every 30 seconds. Thats with 70-75f ambient temps from 8pm-7:30 am. If i take the hood off, i will most definetly need to turn my a/c back on or exchange the room air 6 times every 30 seconds.

If I keep the light I went ahead and ordered it I don't have a problem with putting another 150 or so into it to get a filter and ducting. Do you vent or intake through the filter?

Yes, i pulled and pushed the room through hepa filters. It didn't block the smell in late flower/harvest time but it definetly kept dust and all that shit away which was my main concern. With the hood, i dont have any filters on it but its not hard to make it air-tight with soft spongy tape like 3m's double sided tape. You sandwich the glass between the foamy tape and it makes a nice seal. Also use gorilla tape or rubber clamps for your hood vents if your concerned about smell leakage, Use something sticky and flexible for a good seal.

Keep in mind, im explaining dual ventilation which means the hood and the room gets its own ventilation ducts and inlines. They are kept separated to help keep smell/dirt down and also so i dont choke out my hoods exhaust system with the filters.
