Are these LED lamp beads good for anything?

I'll admit I'm just getting interested in DIY LED. I'd much rather, in the past, buy my LED panel already made. But controlling the color temps of the LED is intriguing to me. In any case, are these "lamp beads" useful for anything? I know I'll have to have something to drive it and some reflective surface, but these appear to be super cheap for 30w.

Fyi, I do know these would not be top of the line...

Thanks!

Oh, these kinda look neat, but I'm not sure I want to spend the money for any to experiment with: http://www.ebay.com/itm/50W-LED-Flood-Light-Spotlight-High-Power-Garden-Outdoor-Waterproof-From-USA-/290915970089?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item43bbf16c29

Thats what i think as well....the reflector but not the lens....

Would give the light output a bit of shape and direction.

Would like to think it wouldnt melt...most of the LED's heat should be on the heatsink anyway...

Or you can just get the whole unit and be done with it.... :)

Yeah, but mounting options open up when you get the components. I was thinking of ways to arrange a few in the best pattern for my intended space.

What about a large flat heatsink... and mounting a few (or more) 10 or 20 watters on it....you can get red and blue aswell. You can fit alot more on then bigger wattages and make patterns to best mix the light spectrums you are after...

But then again...the ideas are endless huh! :D

I was more illustrating the technology of the cob light, rather then entering into the endless debate of 'the best flower spectrum'....can we get another graph up in here...! :)
