Area 51 LEDs

Thought I should repost this since you know what happened.

My Area 51 LED lights arrived a few days ago. I ordered 2 100x3 panels. Came to 730 dollars shipped. Shipping was about a week or so.
Eric over at Area 51 was very helpful in aiding me in my decision of which light is the best for me. I ended up getting optical lenses on all the whites.
Haven't had a chance to use them on any plants but I will be doing so at the beginning of next month and will have a journal to go along with it, so stay tuned. Thus far, they look legit.

Oh my goodness! Those lights look killer and Area51 is one of the companies i've always been interested in but could never find a decent journal! Please deliver a fantastic grow! Also, did you order a custom spectrum? I saw they were available

How are the lens connected?

Ill be sure to post everything in regards to my grow. Like I said I will start it at the beginning of next month.
As far as a custom spectrum, I didn't customize it for myself but it's roughly 66% red/orange, 21% blue/violet, 13% green, yellow, IR, and UV.

As far as I can see, they are connected from up under the metallic plate that is seated over the lights. I dunno lol.

I had a post up about getting my lights ordered from them, and finally got them and posted up about them. Was going here to post a new update on them, and can't find my thread and the only one I can find re: area51 is yours. Plus I had like 10-15 posts before and now I'm reset to 0 before my post earlier in this thread. Did something happen with them??? My lights seem to be fine. One of the larger lights had a flicker but it's either gone or I don't see it when I'm in the room. Plants seem to be fine, but I've been combating high temps in that room so I've had to run the 150x3's at 1/2 power for the last week up until yesterday. I have 2 plants in my 5x5 entering into the last week or two of flower and another about 2 weeks behind. Plus another 8-9 plants about 4-7 weeks out due to different strains and differnt times entering tent.

Are those lights getting hot? Also, the website get hacked so many posts were lost

What were your temps like?

temps are better now.

I'm running the Area51's in a 5x5x6 tent. Prior to the Area51's I had 2x Blackstar240's LED's(130-135w draw) and 2 x 2 bulb 4ft T5's, plus another tent(2x4x5 with @400W of T5's) in that storeroom(8x7x8 room) and temps were holding in the high 70's to low 80's.

Within 1 hour of moving out the blackstars and T5's and putting in the Area51's my temps were in the 90-93 range :O. The store room at that point had no venting outside of that room. Since I was leaving for a trip I dialed back the 2-- 150x3 lights to veg mode for about 1/2 the draw/heat and that allowed temps to slide a bit into the mid/high 80's range which I felt was barely acceptable. I've read that LED grows tend to tolerate a higher heat than HPS, although I would prefer high 70's to low 80's myself.

Now that I'm back I put a "dryer vent" hole in my house and venting the storeroom with a 6" inline fan set at about 1/2 speed so guessing about 120 or so cfm it's moving at that setting. I was hoping by venting the room I might improve my humidity situation as I've had to run a dehumidifier almost 24/7 and empty it 2-3 x's a day. So far humidity seems about unchanged, but temps have come down about 5-8 degrees so far, and I think should continue to drop a bit as the foundation/cement in that room cools a bit.

I'm now running the Area51's all full power again and temps are holding in the mid 80's for now.

I have one kush like indica type plant that is about done flowering. Maybe 1-2 weeks left. One popcorn bud was damaged probably from feeding/watering and moving the plant about. Trying to dry/cure it now and will sample here in a bit . The Buds on this plant though are pretty awesome looking. Starting to really put on the trichomes. First noticed the early trichomes about 2-3 weeks ago like a faint "dust" where the small leaves meet the pistil areas, now that "dust" is spreading hehe! With my lope you can see the trichomes alot better and they are starting to almost look confluent or "meld" in some areas as the resin almost is coating the leaves. Pistils are about 1/3 brown now and still mostly white. Hoping the buds stack a bit more and fill in as yeild on this very large/bushy plant looks to be not great so far. I have 2-3 larger colas and several maybe 5-6 small or tiny colas. For how long this plant vegged and how thick the stem is I would have expected about 2x the yield, but this being my first grow I've screwed up plenty too, and maybe it will still pack on more weight in the final week or two I dunno.

The Sativa dominent plant is starting to really stack up flowers as is the Sat/Ind blend plant. Got kind of lucky I got such a variety in some random mid bag seeds I planted . Clones that vegged about 3-4 weeks have now filled the tent to capactiy. I think a total of 12-13 plants in total in there.

Really excited about the coming weeks and how things will turn out.

My veg tent is also packed too, with more clones from the original 3 bagseed strains, plus I have 10 other dank bagseeds we germed, 2 of which are known blue dream and waiting to sex prior to culling, cloning the fems and eventually putting them over to flower. Should be a fun summer . Original 3 are named G3,6,7. The other G's were males and culled. G is for Gump as we thought it was kind of fitting given bagseeds are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you'll get lol. These were seeds saved from what I considered decent mid, that was pretty ok given it was bricked, seeded and not well cared for, still did the trick. So I figured with some TLC and no seeds it should be decent until I get my wings in this hobby and can then move towards known genetics etc...

So those 3 are the ones that were fems out of I think 8-9 original plants/seeds that germed. G3 is the heavy indica, G6 very Sativa, and G7 is seeming like a mix of each strain, but seems like it's going to take longer than the sativa to complete flower or else won't be a bit yielder as the flowers aren't stacking up like the others.

Any updates on these lights? They were getting hyped up pretty hard and then nothing but silence...anything to report on?

Other than the fact that they seem to be very bright and functional, I cannot report much as I haven't started my grow yet. I will be starting it after this week hopefully. So stay tuned, I will update this thread with a link to my new one once I create it. Thanks.

I'm extremely excited by your grow. There are a lot of us who want to know if Area 51 is a site to be trusted, and if they are really building custom units. It would be nice to see your light working well with growing plants underneath the lights, but may I ask why you didn't go with a custom spectrum? I'm really interested in this company if everything works as advertised but for the most part the LED industry is all lies and deceit. Looking forward to your stellar success and pictorial.

Hell Yea Brother Kyle.I Have Talked With The Guys At Area-51 Several Times.The Area 51 Team Has Honestly Answered All My Questions,Replyed To My E-Mails In A Timley Fashion And This Speaks Volumes To Me.If Their Lights Are as Good as They Say They Are This Grow Will Be Awsome And Im Subbed up with Popcorn And A Hooter.Peace And Hell Ya

update: Loving the lights, got my temps down now, at first had to vent the room with a dryer vent and fan. That was good enough for low 80's temps, but I thought I might want to play with lower temps at night to see how colors might change so I got a 10k btu portable ac and that's really done it. In the end now I could have gone HPS lol, but I'm loving the Area51's and they are doing me right. I did also have to add some furring stips to support my tent as the Area51's are quite a bit heavier than the Blackstars and T5 fixtures I was using, but I am also 2x the wattage too, but cheap tent didn't like that. Was sagging enough to where I worried something could break in time.
Too bad I'm a screwup and let some banannas happen and now I have some seeds showing up . Not the lights fault though, so next run I'm probably going to buy some legit genetics instead of trying to nurse bagseed up to dank. Plus get better at growing.


This is the one that's seeded. She's so beautiful too. Guess I'll have to take her even though she's preggers.

will try to keep it updated . I get side tracked with other things in life and forget about the forums for weeks at a time untill I need to research something or I get the itch to post something .
