At what point is container size overkill

as the girls are getting rootbound in their 20 gallon containers with a little over two months worth of veg left im unsure if its going to be overkill to put them in 150 or 100 gallon pots..... Anyone have any expireince? Not sure if id pull the same yield with 60s or 70s.... any help would be appreciated

any would it be more productive to put them into theyre flowering containers a month or two before? Or about a week before flowering will start

For outdoor I like to place them into their flowering containers as soon as possible. For me that's as soon as I have everyone sexed and the days are long enough for them to stay in veg. they are done in 5's, hard plastic to start then right into 100's smart pots for soil.

I actually use coco outside now though, and have found 40's work just as good as giant soil pots. I use drip loops over the top, and use coco nutrient every water. Watering sometime a couple times a day if it's hot.

Ended up using 100 gallon pots with straight coco. They seem to be happy with the size... end of the year I'll find out if I should of just stayed in 65s. So far it seems the 100s are killing it over the 65s

To me that's kind of like asking at what point is the ground too big! :D

But yeah there must be a point that the bigger pot doesn't really use the room unless you grow it for a long time.

I'll try to get around to it later today.... phone makes me paranoid but it's a legal grow so I shouldn't stress... ended up with some plants that were started later than the rest in the 100s....

I've talked to people who think root bound pots that are watered at least 3 times a day are more productive than large containers that don't fill out.... right now I definitely think the 100s are killing it over the 65s

I use 40 to 80L pots

Plants are vegged for 1 to 4 months in 1L to 15L pots

Normally the sooner they go from a 1L pot to a 5/15L pot the faster they grow given a week or so to root up a bit, then I find getting them into the bigger pot faster normally always ends up with a bigger plant faster

I`d go 1L pots right into 30/60L pots after 2 to 4 weeks if I had the space but moving them around and such would be a bitch plus they would only need watering like once ever 2 to 4 weeks at 1st so that would be strange

I use 30/80L pots now days as my mate who looks after it is great at forgetting and shit at watering

I used to use 1L to 15L pots and water everyday even 6 times a day or more when I had a flood and drain

honestly with a 1L to 5L pot I can out yield what my mate would get in a 15 to 20L pot

but the 60L pots make him being a fuckup sometimes less of a problem

So yeah watering 3 to 6 times a day or running a hydro may yield you more, but for that extra work you could run a 2nd room of bloom and yield way more

So it all depends on your grow style and how much space you have to hand

The best thing with bigger pots is you can use more pebbled or perlite ok you have to water a bit more but you get more roots and can normally still keep it under 3 waterings per week for a 300g to 1kg+ plant now that`s easy buds

Also bigger plants can help keep soil/coco pests busy

A little embarrassed to be posting these..... shitty camera... and I sucks at taking pictures plants have been severely neglected a few times... undefed on a regular basis.... and a few periods where they got nothing but water because of me going out of town. pots are only filled with about 75-85 gallons... and have been dealing with some pest issues... wish I could of started the plants earlier too... treated more like soil.... this is far from where it should be but it's better than nothing....

Thanks i think I just sit around to much and think about it.... I'm really curios to see how hard a 100 gallon can really be pushed... I'm ready for next year to fill it up full and really take care of the girls. Did you try coco on your outdoor last year?

Haha that's awesome man, I'm in coco but indoor (2x2x4 foot tent) I loved it. Super fast explosive growth

Cool do you let your girls get root bound? When I use it inside it seemed like I was waiting for ever to water again unless it was rootbound. Are you using florescent lights?

No, they kept drinking steadily throughout the grow. I have a California lightworks solar flare led. For the low key setup it performs well. Wish I could grow outdoors though!

Just came upon this and am curious if there are specific strains that you use or would like to? I've been so wrapped up about growing in a room that I'm naive about this style of growing and want to educate myself about Some of what it takes to grow in a large containment.
