Attempting my first indoor grow........Help Please.

Hey all, Just continuing on from my first grow(outdoors) and thought I would try an indoor grow. I have a detached outbuilding with a small bathroom shower in it. It is 3x3x8 and is tiled. I am planning on using mylar to line the walls and fully enclose it. After much back and forth thought, I decided against CFL'S and went with an Appollo 600w MH/HPS fixture. There are 3 windows in the area itself, but none in the shower. So here are my questions:

1. How much heat will 1-600w light produce ??
2. Will there be a need for ventilation other than some circulating fans ??
3. Will growing in the shower(which I will keep very clean) be affected by the 600w light ?? I still want the shower functional after I am done.
4. How long will it take indoors to mature compared to outdoors ?? I understand 12/12, but will it still take 9-14 weeks indoors ??

I am going into this experimentally and with the mind set that "Hey lets have fun and see what happens", but of course would still like to get started in the right direction. Just popped 7 seeds from Attitude 5 Blue Cheese (fem seeds) 1 cheese candy, 1 Pakistani Valley (both freebies from attitude.
Anything else I might need ?? Appreciate all the advice and help I can get-------You guys all got me thru my first grow this Summer, so I am back looking for more help and advice.......Thanks to all in advance !!!

Hey, a 600 watt light will produce a fair amount of heat in that space, if you can afford it I would say invest in an air cooled hood and attach an inline fan to it with ducting and vent through a window while pulling air from a separate air source. If you do it this way you will have little to no heat, then you can just use the oscillating fans as a fake breeze for your plants. If you cover the walls/floor ceiling well then your shower will not be damaged. As long as you dont need to screw in some hooks to hang the fan and light. For indoors you want to start with an 18 hour on/ 6 hour off light schedule through vegetative stage. Once your plant reaches a third to half the size of your desired final height then switch to 12 hours on 12 hours off to induce flowering. Flowering can take anywhere from 7 to 10 weeks depending on the strain. You're looking at at least 3 months from start to finish.

See if I can help....

1. A single 600W bulb will flower an area about 6 x 6 feet and does not get much warmer than a 100W incan. You can judge plant-to-light distance
by holding your hand over the top of the plant. If your hand feels warm it is too close for the plant. If you are concerned about heat from a bulb you
can solve most of your concerns by avoiding MH bulbs and ballasts completely. MH units run much hotter than HPS bulbs and are not much better for
vegging.

2. Where are you at? You have to be able to keep your temps under 85 degrees and even better, 80 degrees. My indoor plants start to show signs of heat
stress when over 83 degrees or so for a while. If a fan or 2 can keep the room cool enough you should be fine. Remember that just checking the temp in an
empty room even with the bulb lit is not a good predictor of temps you will have. A half-dozen 3-foot plants in a small room will raise the temp considerably
so factor that in.

3. No problem there. In fact, the high reflectivity of a tile room will help bounce the light around better than a room with porous walls. Might be a good idea
to turn the water of in the shower stall while growing. I hate having a source of running water anywhere near my 1000W light.

4. If you want fast try some near-pure indica strains. I use a number of strains from Attitude that finish in 5-7 weeks. I've been growing and cloning Kushage
from T.H.Seeds. Easy to clone and finishing (in one-gallon pots -- remember; small pot = faster finish) in 5-6 weeks.

Good luck and keep us posted, BigSteve.

@Windsurfer and Bigsteve........Thanks so much for your input and suggestions. Like I said before I had my first successful grow this Summer and did it all organic with a multitude of help from members all over the various forums. I am now going to dabble in an indoor project and hopefully have the same good luck. I am a good study and am "coachable" as they say LOL !!......I would like to clarify that the shower is a 3x3x8 high space, but the room it's in is much bigger...this should help with heat issues. I am thinking also that I have 3 windows in that structure and an access to the under floor thru a trap, might just be a good place to carbon vent in the future...??? I have read that MH for Veg, but HPS for flower.....Is this correct...I know there is a lot out there about HPS through out or changing the bulbs. Thankfully my fixture will run both. Anything else that I am forgetting ????
