In case of that rainy day for whatever the reason, if your main stash of seeds were destroyed, confiscated, stolen or otherwise lost, do you keep a backup?

i do. mine are buried in a mason jar on some property i own.

i have too many seeds, but there are a little more than a dozen i won't lose.

and you?

I dont have a seed stock. Wish i did. Need to. But I have a mother plant house on the other side of town that me and 3 grower buddys share. About 25 different strains and all mother cloning stock. Plus my moms here of the same. We all know what we are doing so when we need cuts...we just cut them there and take em home in cups of water to for transport. Root them in our own individual setups. And mother backups at all of our houses. Works for us. No one puts anything new there until approved by all 4 of us and checked/quarantined.

I do not but should. I have dozens of strains and many are not available anymore. In the future I will try to put aside some of the f2's I made and bury them for a backup. 4 feet deep is the recommended depth but it gets cooler and more temperature stable the lower you go, well until about a mile down, then it gets hotter. They will average 50 to 60 degrees F. If the area around where you bury is shaded most of the day that will help too, but it has to be quite a large area to make a difference.

I am in a legal state so the only worry is theft. There are so many clones and seeds around I doubt anyone would want my stash of mostly heirloom strains. Come to think of it, I may take a food container or such and hide some seeds in there. Some unappealing frozen dinner and cut out a bit of it and replace that with my stash and then seal up the package.

just bury them in a insulated Styrofoam cooler and don't worry about depth.

Not sure if that would work ^^. If you left a styrofoam container outdoors in 100 F weather, I expect it would be close to that inside the container after a few hours even out of the sun.

Naw, especially not the ones I'm talking about, besides I'm not saying to leave it outside. It has to be buried but it only needs to be a foot or so deep.

styrofoam is not water proof. only temporarily
?? The thick ones i have should never leak, sun would be the only thing that would really deteriorate them and they are buried. at any rate you could you could double bag them in Heavy duty garbage bags in you are worried about that.the seeds will go bad before the cooler

If you are speaking of a plastic covered cooler, ok. But just styrofoam will leak. Put water in one for a few days

I need to get together a nice selection of seeds. I have some but not stocked up. What Iam after is different cuts that are good and clean. At the mother house we got plenty of room. Stuff always coming and going. We got around 20 to 25 SOLID keepers that my grower buddys and I run consistently..but Iam game for testing anything once. I got a test tent and I will run and observe anything from the street in there. If it makes the trials..she goes to our spots.

Post hole digger and a piece of 4 inch pvc with a cap on one end and screw cap on the other works great.

Lol. I may be crazy. I have money, food and even a couple guns buried. I have back up seed stock for food as well as smoke buried.

Nope, I have a bunch of coolers used for medicine I got for free. Some have been left for months with water in them and no leaks, but if i was worried I would simply put the cooler in trash bags and the seed in a gallon sized baggy. non existent problem solved.

Also, bust a nut in a sock and put it in a jar. Maybe they need you in the future.

ok, you must not be talking about the cheapies you get at a convenient store. maybe something disposable that is very thick made for medical reasons.
