I love that quote because it is repeated so often and out of context....

Bush was strictly talking about defeating the Iranian Army and toppling the Hussein govt. ... and at that point...Bush was 100% CORRECT. Mission accomplished. he didn't say the war was won.... now did he? No, he said.... the BIG objective....taking down the govt and it's heavily armed military was accomplished.

Yes George.... mission accomplished. Thank you very much too.

Bush gave us VICTORY. That is all we can ask of a Commander in Chief. When the times got tough, Bush forged ahead. When others ran for cover.... hillary, kerry, obama.... Bush persevered.

That's leadership....
Actually, that 'Mission Accomplished' banner referred specifically to the mission of the Navy group arriving back at port. The Navy hung the banner, not the Administration. Meaning it had little if anything to to with the war, or Dubya; just that specific mission.

The Proggies used it, quite successfully, as an example of the myopia of the Bush Administration. Never mind that it was incorrect.

Misleading propaganda never hampered the Proggies.

nice try - not even close to reality and spun out of bs. read the speech. here is the beginning.................

Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln, my fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country.

In this battle, we have fought for the cause of liberty, and for the peace of the world. Our nation and our coalition are proud of this accomplishment — yet it is you, the members of the United States military, who achieved it. Your courage — your willingness to face danger for your country and for each other — made this day possible. Because of you, our nation is more secure. Because of you, the tyrant has fallen, and Iraq is free.

Operation Iraqi Freedom was carried out with a combination of precision, and speed, and boldness the enemy did not expect, and the world had not seen before. From distant bases or ships at sea, we sent planes and missiles that could destroy an enemy division, or strike a single bunker. Marines and soldiers charged to Baghdad across 350 miles of hostile ground, in one of the swiftest advances of heavy arms in history. You have shown the world the skill and the might of the American Armed Forces.

This nation thanks all of the members of our coalition who joined in a noble cause. We thank the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, Australia, and Poland, who shared in the hardships of war. We thank all of the citizens of Iraq who welcomed our troops and joined in the liberation of their own country. And tonight, I have a special word for Secretary (Donald) Rumsfeld, for General (Tommy) Franks, and for all the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States: America is grateful for a job well done.

The character of our military through history — the daring of Normandy, the fierce courage of Iwo Jima, the decency and idealism that turned enemies into allies — is fully present in this generation. When Iraqi civilians looked into the faces of our servicemen and women, they saw strength, and kindness, and good will. When I look at the members of the United States military, I see the best of our country, and I am honored to be your commander in chief. ......................blah blah blah

All of you might as well wake up ... there is NO exit strategy. Obama has none. Bush had none. We are in Iraq for the duation, just like we are in South Korea, Germany, Japan .. and on, and on, and on. Oil production is concentrated in the Middle East. There is no way that Western countries can afford a take-over of the majority of the world's oil production by rouge states such as Iran.

For you libbies: You may hate Bush, but get it though you skulls ... your Messiah lied through his teeth to get your vote.

what's that mean "you may hate bush", like are you giving permission to hate bush? or it's "OK" to hate bush.

obama hasn't lied in my opinion. not at all.

i agree on Iraq, we will never leave completely. I could see us leaving Afghanistan if the Taliban is defeated. The next terror front might be Yemen. The Pakistani's assisted with the capture of Taliban leaders recently, but Pakistan is another terror front.

So now we are talking about the speech referring to the battle, and not the 'Mission Accomplished' banner?

Refute the fact that the Naval group returning to port requested the banner, not the Administration.

I'm no huge Bush fan ... but give the man his due. He was a leader. He made the tough calls. He traded popularity for keeping us safe (think Clinton).

He respected the military. He was a Commander in Chief. He was the right man at the right moment.

When the going gets tough ( 9/11 ), the tough get going ( Bush ).

Mission accomplished ... dang straight.

Congratulations on being the only person I know (be it in real life or on the internet) who still supports George Bush.

That's amazing!

You are delusional..... the country is revising Bush's status upwards every day. In a few years he will rise past any recent Democrat President.... but that is unfair really....since they were all abysmal for the country.

I love how you just disregarded my ..."I'm no huge fan of Bush comment". You see...I'm in the middle....and you are NOT.
