Barneys Farm Liberty Haze smoke/grow report

This is my first smoke report. I find it hard to describe my high most of the time so I hope this report is useful.

Strain: Barneys Farm Liberty Haze

Growth: Flowered in 91 Days under 275w LED's. Very Sativa, Takes a long time to mature. Some heat stress in the first few weeks may have slowed progress. Topped @ 4 weeks. Grown in 2G Smart Pots with FFoF mixed with perlite.

Nutes:
Very Basic. Veg: Jack's Classic All Purpose - Flower: Jack's Classic Blossom Bloomer & Cal-Mag. Flushed 10 days before harvest.

Yield:
I cannot comment on yield with any authority as this was my first grow and I made mistakes.

Bag Appeal:
8/10 Nice frosty nugs. Bright orange hairs. Light green buds with dark forest green highlights. Shit looks dank as hell.

Smell:
6/10 Hard to describe. Kind of a mix of citrus and moldy tea leaves. Not unpleasant, Just different.

Taste:
8/10 Nice & Smooth, Not harsh. The tea leaf smell is replaced with a more musky lemony flavor. It's the best way i can describe it.

The High:
9/10 I want to rate this higher but I don't want to get carried away. What can I say? It begins as a clear headed, nervous, racy sativa high and just when your getting a hold on it it drops you almost into a speedy couchlock, if that makes sense? It seems cumulative as well. I start the day smoking this and functioning as best I can. By the end of the day I can barely keep my eyes open.

Comments & Observations:
This was my first grow so take my review as such. I'm sure given a chance to grow this strain again it would be even better. The smell, the taste and I'm sure I could yield better and grow it in a shorter time. That being said this pheno is very sativa. She grows fast, tall and takes a long time to bloom but the smoke is totally worth it.

And that's my story. Enjoy.

looks good man, from what ive read the tea leaf / hay / grass smell comes from drying to quickly. as you know im no expert but just to give you a heads up as to what it might be.

Thanks, This was my first from Barneys. Yeah, The BF sativas seem to be a bit finicky. I currently have a Critical Kush germing, Time to see how the Indicas do.

I have heard that as well but don't have much prior experience to confirm if that is true or just a myth. From what I have read normally a "tea smell" indicates an early harvest or the bud hasn't been properly dried/cured. I definitely did not harvest early. I'm still in the process of curing my bud, But it isn't too dry. The jars I'm curing in actually started to fog a bit yesterday and I had to take the buds out as I think they were still too wet, So I don't think I dried too fast. But I may be wrong.

The only thing I am sure of is the smell is not unpleasant and as the cure continues it is fading a bit, becoming smoother smelling and obtaining some citrus to it.

We'll see. Thanks for the heads up brett!

If your jars are fogging, watch them closely. Mold can take over quickly.
Thanks for the advice cindysid.

I had the buds curing in small 16oz jars for about a week with hygrometers. Yesterday I found myself with an empty 32oz jar and decided to combine some small jars into that one. The buds were all big uncut main colas. Within a half hour I started seeing the fogging. I removed everything and they have been on a screen overnight. I'm going to re-jar them later and if the hygrometer jumps back up to 70% RH then it's back to the screen for me.

you should try curing in brown paper bags. it allows the buds to breath preventing mold growth.
i've never really heard of anyone curing in paper bags, drying yes, but out and out curing, not really...

jars are great because they don't impart any flavor into the buds and keep out all air / moisture that's not already in the buds out...

strain looks good as well op, nice smoke report, and killer first grow... :D

Arjan from green house seed co cures his buds in brown paper bags. He has specific grow videos for every strain he sells. at the end of every video he explains how to dry and cure the buds.

Too bad greenhouse sucks, except maybe super lemon haze.
Some old heads around here cure in paper bags, seemed to work pretty nicely.

So you got the sativa dominate type. I have 7 Liberty Hazes in vegetation right now. Prolly after this run I wont do Barney's Farm gear again. In the process of flowering some pineapple chunks, critical og and their ak blue mammoth. The PC is an extremely sensitive plant and notorious for uncontrolled stretching. The critical og actually has a great plant profile short internodes and doing quite well. The AK auto didnt auto but started flowering in a day after i switched photoperiod to 12/12 looking lke a beast atm. Hope the smoke from all those three BF strains are solid but still wont do BF in the future again not unless they are free seeds.

if i were you, i would cut the plant by the base of the stem and hang it to dry, let it dry for 4-5 days slowly without trimming the plant at all, then you can put it straight into jars once its crisp to trim/manicure, without worry for burping consistently. the buds dry slower contributing to a better cure, so they are ready to smoke after a week, and are prime after 3-4 weeks cure. nice first harvest. + rep

Yeah, The entire pack ended up being the sativa phenos. At the time I purchased/started growing the LH there was almost no info on here or anywhere else other than the seedbanks and BF's website. I did not even know there were several pheno's. I guess I got unlucky. I've been smoking the LH for some time now and am very happy with the smoke. I'd love to grow the sativa phenos outside if I could. They'd reach for the stars and probably touch them as well.

I got a few BF freebies myself. Same as yours, auto mammoth, crit og & pineapple chunk. None of them germed for me unfortunetly, which is a shame because I wouldce liked to at least try them. I have no problem with BF seeds. i think they get a bad rap because they're a huge breeder. Same way attitude gets shit because they're the largest seedbank.

Anyway, Hopefully when your done with your BF strains you'll hook us all up with a smoke report...?

it sounded like a good smoke report to me. you used actual adjectives. a strain can be jittery and paranoid as well as couchlock too. some strains start you out with a high and then creep into a stone, but even motivational strains like haze skunk can hit you with lead eyelids while keeping you active at the same time.

that's why good smoke reporting means so much to me. buzzes vary a lot between strains with a bunch of different effects in different combinations. that you were able to identify raciness AND stone and then put it into words kicks ass. you did a way better job than all of the aholes who make giant grow reports talking in depth about nute levels and temps bt the minute with lots of pretty pics, and then leave you scratching your head with some BS "man this shit is DANK!" OR "BEST SHIT EVER!" which tell you exactly nothing.

ya did just fine. now i know that liberty haze just isn't my cup of tea. you mentioned it's couchlock, and that's always the first question i want answered that i literally begged and pleaded for from people suggesting super silver haze and apollo 11 years ago. no one would ever say anything more than "trust me, you'll love either of them". nah uh... not trusting anyone who can't give a straight answer.

nice report. keep up the good work helping the res of us decide what we want to try or not. +REP

  • Flushed 10 days before harvest.

Try 14 days next time for premium smoke, I hate it when people flush later for more yield, the smoke is SOOO much better if you flush longer!

I cannot comment on yield with any authority as this was my first grow and I made mistakes.

tell us anyway! what did you yeild dry your first grow, off how many plants?
Other pertinent questions include

1. How long was cure time at time of smoking?

2. How long was dry time (from cut to stem snapping)

3. Any plant pics/link to grow journal?
