Bath Tub Bud

A newbie to growing bud, but I've been successful in vegetable plants.

I've constructed a 5'x3.5'x4' bos out of plywood and 2x4s. Total cost of ~$40 at Lowe's. I'm currently using 4x4' plant/aquarium FL lights until 3/10 when I am getting a 400wt HPS/MH setup from HTG. I have 3 self-made CO2 bottles (2 inside on the bottom, 1 2lt bottle with tubing from the top).

Any posts or comments would be appreciated.

I've read many of the journals and advice from seasoned growers, but I'm still a little confused as to when to nut the girls.

Also, my leaves seem to be a dull green. Is this normal?

How about thoughts on spraying the plants themselves?

does your soil have any nutes in it?
I'm gonna wait till I see either my cotyl's or my first set of leaves turning yellow like they're lacking nitrogen before i nute my plants...but your ladies look lovely! you must be treating them right..

I gave them nutes last Sunday, but will hold off for a while ... I've used MG soil and MG nutes. I'll be driving up to HTG for newer nutes and lights.

Thanks for the encouragement.

i don't understand why people nute their plants so early. you're getting hps? you got CO2 and no hydro? when you find your females (if they ain't), do yourself a favor and make you a rubbermaid ebb and flow. cheap, and WAY more effective than soil........since you like nutes so much. hydro leaves little to be desired. your plants look great. i hope you get all females (if they ain't).

I transplanted and thought it might help to nute them ... I used 1/8 recommended ... I am getting HPS this coming Friday ... This is my first grow so I thought I'd try soil first ...

Thanks for the feedback ...

Rog, nice grow! I'm also a newbie and I've been strictly outdoors until this past weekend when I started bringing the plants in at night and using CFLs to extend the light. My grow is into week 3 and my plants look NOTHING like yours. Mine are still very immature looking, only 3-4". They are healthy looking, though. I see new leaves sprouting. I added nutes for the first time this weekend and so far they are doing good.

Keep up the good work!

DAY 22

Brought all 14 of the ladies out of the box today for measurements and watering. Since they were bag seeds, I can possibly group them into 3 "family" groups now. I'll follow this up with pics when I get new batteries tomorrow.

I've 4 of the same that I will call Zelda1-Zelda4. They are short but very bushy.

Next 4 are taller and about as wide as the Zelda. They are Wilma1-Wilma4.

Last 6 are unknow right now ... Uma1-Uma6, respectively ... variety of heights and widths.

Name Height Width Rating(1-5, 5 the best)
Z1 4.00" 9.00" 5
Z2 2.75" 8.50" 5
Z3 2.50" 8.25" 5
Z4 2.75" 8.50" 4

W1 5.25" 8.75" 5
W2 4.75" 9.25" 5
W3 4.00" 8.25" 5
W4 3.75" 8.00" 5

U1 3.75" 7.75" 5
U2 3.50" 6.25" 5
U3 3.75" 6.00" 3
U4 3.75" 4.00" 3
U5 3.50" 4.50" 3
U6 3.50" 4.50" 2

I've also 2 small ones in peat cups, that were planted 10-15 days ago AND I just germinated and planted 5 more germinated seeds. I think that I am becoming obsessed. I have so many so that I can experiment with them (topping, different flower times, clone, etc ...)

I'll be getting the HPS/MH light this Friday ... pretty excited ...

Nice looking grow so far. You had asked earlier if it was normal for the plants to be pale green. I read elsewhere on here that it could be a sign of not enough light. Your HPS should take care of that problem for you. I'll be following your grow!

Thanks! But it's not really pale green ... it's a really dark green ... almost "dusty" looking ... any ideas?

I'm no expert but from what I've read on here, dark green could be one of 2 things - it could just be the genetics of the plant or it could be too much nitrogen. I don't know that it's such a bad thing that the leaves are dark green. I would get a 2nd opinion though.

I just installed the 400wt HPS/MH light system ... I put the MH bulb in because I am still in veg state (4-5 weeks). Is that correct? Also, I got Fox farm nutes and the instructions say I should be on 18/6. Since I have the bigger light now and I think heat may become a factor, should I switch from 24/0 to 18/6?

ive been looking all over to find out my bagseed strain also, but the most i could find is determining whether its indica or sativa.. but if u search for different things like the smell, size, color and any other distinctive qualities on some other grow journals you might find out you are growing the same strain or a similar strain as someone else..that'll put you in the ballpark

and as far as the lights i would go 18/6 if heat is a problem, either that or u will probably need to cool the light by fan/air conditioner/cool tube. i think the only time you're supposed to go 24/7 is when ur using fluoro's.

3+ days under the MH light system and the ladies are loving it! I hope to get some pics up later. Also went to 18/6. They are definately getting bigger and bushier!!
