Battle "Royale": DNA's Kosher Kush vs. Imperial Genetics Kurple Fantasy

I didn't post my grow this time but I thought I'd compare these 2 heavy weights. Everyone seems to know or have heard about the Kosher Kush while the Kurple Fantasy was a Denver Cup winner (Indica) a few years back. I'm at day 57 in flowering after a 28 day veg period. This grow included Aztec Rain, Purple Storm, Sugar Punch, Chocolate Cheese, with Kosher Kush and Kurple Fantasy of course- all feminized seeds A few details:

Kosher Kush: Jew Gold X OG Kush, stinky, grows tall, above average yields, plants are fairly uniform, easy to grow and keep healthy, done in about 10 weeks. Mostly indica, very potent and can be grown outside just as well.

Kurple Fantasy: 92' OG Kush X Old Mountain Man Purps, 75% indica, slightly above average yields, 1 plant out of 11 finished at 52 days but normally no later then 9 weeks, grape taste (supposedly), lots of medical benefits, U.S. based genetics, and stays short in flowering.

Pictures up tomorrow of the Kurple. I tried the Kurple for the 1st time last night and 2 hits did me well for 6 hours- I was very buzzed. Since it's the only time I smoked it, I'll reserve my ratings for a while but if I did give it a rating it would have been a 9.5/10 in potency (and I haven't give anything above a 9 out for many years). 11 of these plants will insure a good long testing period......LOL

I tried the Kosher Kush tonight for the first time, although it has longer to go (about 10-12 days). Very kushy taste and smell, very sticky, needs more time, came on very quick and peaked about 45 minutes in......

Let the battle begin!

Again, the crop is on-going........only day 57 in flowering.........the S.P. is probably the slowest of all the strains in the room. It was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY behind at one point but caught up some the last 2 weeks. It's has a very sativa grow pattern, and stretchy. I'll definitely post a final bud shot and a smoke report when it's finished but I'm figuring on going 68-70 days on it.

Sshz, how's this grow coming along? Got any pictures? Very interested in the sugar punch, how's she looking?

Sorry Durban......wife was in the hospital for 5 days, I got a bad cold and bronchitis so I haven't felt like posting- still feel like shit. Even though feeling poorly, I managed to chop about 1/2 the room, mainly the Kurple Fantasy and some of the Purple Storm. Still waiting for the Kosher Kush, Chocolate Rain, Aztec Rain and 1 Sugar Punch to finish. I'm figuring this Thurs thru Sunday (10 weeks) I'll be cutting the plants left.

Since you are interested regrding the Sugar Punch.........these were the last seeds started (2), since I was just trying to fill the room at that point. The seeds were tiny, and not very mature. They took 3-4 days to pop, and were tiny little spouts for a while. These seeds are probably 1.5-2 years old so at least they popped. Knowing the history of the strain, I figured even with the late spout, they would catch up with the more indica plants, which it never really did. P.S. I only kept 1 of the plants by the way. Exactly 9 weeks today (Sunday), this plant will probably be the last plant cut. I fully expect this to be the strongest plant in the room, for sure it's the most sativa. The plants grow pattern is not very condusive for indoor grows, as it has wide margins between buds and like to spread- great outdoors, indoors- ehhhh.

With the cold, I can't comment on the smell but the buds have loads of resin, TONS. The lower branches, which reach very low on the plant- are more finished then the top cola. So it finishes bottom to top rather then top to bottom which I'm more used to. I'm guessing 1.5 oz off the plant, maybe a bit more- not a heavy yielding pheno is my guess.

This is a strain I've wanted to grow for a long, long time. And it's one I've read a lot about (opengrow.com)- there are many comments about tremendous, un-restrained growth thru weeks 3-4 in flowering. The size just scared the shit out of me. Do I grow 6 plants in the room, or 12 or 18 or 24, my normal number? There is also a shorter pheno, so the plants aren't totally uniform either. Add in 10+ weeks flowering time, I always chose something else in the end.

So, it will be cut in a week one way or another and it's something I'll be keeping for private stock, my very best sativa for sure. Durban, I'll take a pic this afternoon so you can take a look.

I hope you and the wife are ok now?

Thanks, I know about those tiny seeds. I had a bad germination rate with 6 seeds I had, only got 2 to sprout. The kinky cheese freebies had a much better success rate, all 5 broke ground and have been growing well.
The photo will give me a heads up on what I can expect on the 2 I have in veg.
Thanks

A pic up shortly.......just be aware of different pheno possibilities on the S.P.......

Ok....pic 2 first.......it's the full plant as best as I could get it. Wide open and spread out, a definite sativa pheno.

Pic 3 is just the bottom of the plant which was not lollipopped like the rest of the room.

Pic 1 show's a mid level bud about 1/2 way down the plant. I just wanted to show the resin production.

This plant was elevated on a reversed 15 inch pot to help with the height but it got less light then every other plant located in the front right corner of the room. Again, it's the furtherst behind and will be the last to be chopped. I'm pretty excited about finally being able to have a smoke of it- it's been a long time coming.

Regarding the freebie Cheese, were you referring to the Chocolate Cheese? I have two of these finishing up, 1 of them looks fabulous and the other is a bit behind in finishing. E$kobar stated in his thread on the strain that it's a must-do strain and one he really talked up about, especially for a once in a lifetime opportunity.

No not the chocolate cheese, I got the kinky cheese. It is also by e$kobar but is KinkyCheese = Shiva X BBCheese.
Thanks for the photos, looks great. Super excited now, one the the SP is very sativa leaning.

Maybe, maybe not........at this point, with the plants yellowing from lack of fertilizer and end of life, they sure are not as pretty so typically next up would be finished bud pictures while drying. I will say, regarding the S.P., it sure finishes quick. The main cola has really come along the last few days. If I remember, I'll snap a quick one for you......

Either way, don't do a long veg on yours or you'll be asking for trouble. I remember seeing a video on YouTube (I think) on a guy who flowered from seed and his plants still grew into monster trees. It's worth a search so you can see it for yourself......if not on Youtube, it was on Opengrow.com....

Durban....if you happen to check back, things are done, dried and being enjoyed by many. Regarding the Sugar Punch, looks great, smells great, got about 1 1/2 oz from the plant. High is ok, nothing great. I'd give it a 6.5/10 potency, nothing to rave about. Probably best early in the day. Disappointing overall, I expected it to be stronger honestly. Taste's great too. Glad I finally grew 1 out.

Regarding the Kosher vs. the Kurple, I'm happy with both of them. Kurple 1st- only got about 19 oz off of 11 plants, not great. But the plant finished early (8.5 wks max), looks and smell wonderful, and a nice mix of indica and sativa in the high. Out of the 6 strains grown this time, probably my go to smoke at this point. 1/3 of the plants had a wonderfull deep purple coloring, the other 2/3 were straight green.

The Kosher, was my best yielding at 13.5 oz from 3 plants. Cut at 68 days, another week would not have hurt it. I don't feel any sativa it- just a relaxing indica buzz, very chill and mellow. Smells great, deep indica smoke, tasty too. Looks top shelf. Grows tall, pinched once and they were all still the tallest plants in the room. Easy to manicure, some of the plants reminded me of the Holy Grail Kush by DNA- maybe same parent is in there somewhere.

The yield of the Kosher is so outstanding, it becomes a staple in my garden. It's easy to grow, and these seeds were freebies too. The Kurple is probably not available anymore, and its a more interesting (and enjoyable) smoke- but more then 2X the weight with the Kosher with the quality bud from top to bottom- makes it easy to see why it's so popular.

A few comments on the rest:

Aztec Rain- 1 plant was done early at 8 weeks, the other at 10.5 weeks. The early plant was special, great high and tasty. Mostly sativa, a strain worth investigating again at a later time.

Purple Storm- earliest of the 6 strains, below average yield, nice finished product. Better then I thought it was going to be.

Chocolate Cheese- Cut around 10.5 weeks, I guess it needed more time since it wasn't as good as I expected it to be. Looked great, solid yield, 6/10 potency. Grew two plants, one carried the dank cheesey stink from the Exodus Cheese.

Final order from best to worst, while considering all factors:

Kosher Kush
Kurple Fantasy
Aztec Rain
Purple Storm
Chocolate Cheese
Sugar Punch

Thanks SSHZ, interesting read. Well done. A bit disappointed the sugar punch did not turn out that well for you, how many weeks did you let it go for.

Just about 10 weeks total.....it was done, loaded with resin and looked great. But the buzz I expected just wasn't there. Remember though, it was only 1 plant. Maybe I got a dud?
