I have done the ssri route because I too was depressed after going 10 years on nothing but grit...not sleeping any longer tips the scale...
the first opiate I ever did was the fentanyl patch....I guess my doc figured I need it...and after 10 years of successful use of the patch...
fentanyl became the devil in the media....and suddenly all the doctors are back tracking....
first time I ever used oxy was this spring...
the sad thing is I remember my doctor saying to me ten plus years ago. and I will quote her.."I will never put u on oxy"...because 10 years ago there was a crisis with oxy contin... and I remember responding to her " ok"
