Bernie Sanders is the most popular politician in the US

Exactly, he has populist rhetoric. Sanders actually has populist policy positions. That's why many people who voted for Trump would have voted for Sanders and why he undoubtedly would have won the general election. To deny that at this point is to deny the facts of reality.
I wouldn't say undoubtedly because who knows how many that voted for Trump decided along the lines of immigration bans, the wall, abortion, and the gambit of partisan wedge issues. I agree about the rhetoric vs policy but not sure how it would have played out.

If they didn't see this coming then they're simply stupid.

I'm sorry, but they are.
It's hard to argue against that. Maybe it is false hope but I'd like to believe like padawanbater that if given more information and presenting a better narrative and real "radical" policy proposals maybe things could have gone differently. I hope they are uninformed/mislead rather than just plain stupid.

That's exactly the problem. Republicans lie to them just like establishment Democrats lie to their base. They're misinformed and believe propaganda, they're not stupid. There are Democrats on this forum who suffer from the exact same delusion of party politics

Democrats aren't perfect but are night and day with Republicans when it comes to policy. I am frustrated with aspects of the Democratic party, but I appreciate and respect the work they have done considering who they are up against. I'm not convinced progressives should split just yet.

How do you suggest the progressive wing of the Democratic party and the establishment wing reconcile when the fundamental disagreement is corporate financing of campaigns?

Progressives believe if Democrats accept corporate bribes they are beholden to those corporate interests. Moderates believe it's necessary to accept corporate bribes in order to be a financially viable option against Republicans.

I don't see a way to compromise such diametrically opposite positions

Sure, you let your guys run on that when Republicans are shovelling millions of dollars into advertising and we'll see how many seats you get.

I'm gonna guess 0.

70 teens in Wisconsin can't read their own laws and trust social media ads but it's Bernie's fault and this is how he planned to win? Your comment belongs on Breitbart.
actually we have Bernie idiots who did not even register Democratic even after Bernie announced that he was running as a Democrat. We have other Bernie idiots who think Roe vs Wade cannot be challenged nor overturned. This list is long on how ill-informed these Bernie Baby Muppets are
Low fucking information voters

If we capped contributions, wouldn't both parties have relatively the same amount of financial viability?

We are doing just that

Would you like to make an avatar bet that we get more than 0 candidates in office?

More importantly, would you like to make a bet that we can get actual progressives in office by spending less than the opposition, proving your hypothesis bullshit and rendering the argument that Democrats have to take money in order to win against Republicans useless?

If there is no hope to persuade then how do you see this playing out? Civil war? I think I saw you say hate is learned and can be unlearned. Do you believe that?
absolutely.

but i hold out no hope that the vast majority will ever attempt to, much less want to, unlearn it.

these people want to remain in a state of perpetual victimhood, where their just desserts are being robbed from them by someone, anyone, the point being that it isn't THEIR fault (it is though).

" A global power structure is responsible for the economic decisions that have robbed our working class, stripped our country of its wealth, and put that money into the pockets of a handful of large corporations and political entities."

"Globalism today means only victimization. We have come to this: that a people sees its destiny to lie at the will of a few dozen global bankers."

"MY OPPONENT MEETS IN SECRET WITH INTERNATIONAL BANKERS TO PLOT THE DESTRUCTION OF OUR NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY"

"ECONOMIC PROSPERITY IS INSEPARABLE FROM POLITICAL FREEDOM AND THEREFORE THAT HOUSE OF LIES, 'GLOBALISM', MUST IMMEDIATELY COLLAPSE"

"We see the results internationally: the end of the whole economic life of the State: the handing over of the community to the international world of finance."

"We will no longer surrender this country or its people to the false song of globalism. The nation-state remains the true foundation for happiness and harmony."

just see if you can properly guess who made the following statements: hitler or trump
