Best time to Water Soil Plants..

hey, just wondern is it best to water just before night period or the start of light period?? Im in 12/12 at the mo...
like if they are dry before bed time would it help growth or repare if u watered then......or does it really matter

I water them right before lights on. I like to run them totally dry before I water so my thought is that the last 6 or 12 hours of no water will be least stressful in the dark. It probably doesn't matter though.
