Biodynamics?

Supprised not to have seen more of this here and since it seems to be quite a wide ranging methodology general gardening seems to be a good place for a discussion.

For starters the formulations seem to have some basis in science, plant biology, nutrient needs etc. But having trouble wrapping my head around filling an animal stomach with herbs and burying it feels a little pegan like.

Planetary and lunar cycles - for whatever reason I feel like I see some impact like an increase in new growth under a full or nearly full moon in an indoor garden! More "research" seemed to indicate ascending/descending and perigee/apogee are more important.

A calendar that includes times of when to or not to do things based on astrological allignments.

I'm pretty open minded so I'll ask if anyone has tried any of this?

Everything I do in my garden is 'biodynamic'. Therefore, I'm a little skeptical just in terms of the nomenclature.

Tonight happens to be a Supermoon. That's when the full moon is also at its perihilion or closet approach in orbit, creating the strongest spring tides.

If you're breeding sea creatures like crabs I'll bet it's a big deal. For us ganja farmers, maybe not so much?

Go dance in the moonlight after smoking a phattie. Isn't that good enough? Lol

The earliest reference I could find is 1924, but one source stated it was part of a movement to avoid comercially produced fertilizer.

Now for another pegan ritual.bongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilie

It's 'Pagan' and I'll join you!

Having been to college and taken some chemistry, I'm not afraid of dry nutrient salts.

I'm also intrigued by aquaponics as a way to sidestep industrial fertilizer production altogether.

@ttystikk you should know I can't spell my way out of a wet paper bag. Figured this shit would atleast intrigue you?

There is even a national association and a certification process for farms.

i do these. but in my own may. part of steiner's teachings were to use his surroundings. so since i have no bulls, i use bamboo tubes and clay pots. yesterday i stuffed a tube with bokashi, dandelion and some other common wildflower that resembles chamomile.

I think my compost pile is going to get a whole lot more interisting.

Thanks for the link, I too am using what I have, dog "manure", dog hair, post primary fermentation grape must to name a few. I am going to suppliment with some purchased preparations, you don't happen to have any colorado points of contact do you? I'll try the national assocation and such but somehow I get the impression it takes a certain type to go the whole distance with this.:hump:

@iHearAll hopefully this will give you a feel for where I'm at and where I want to go with this, rather than plug up your thread with it and since a picture is worth a thousand words here's a glimpse (lots of my favorite diy tools and shit in the background).

The latest thing i tore apart today

Havent figured bread out yet (high altitude) but waffles ("recipe" on top of bottle) are my favorite pizza crust is good too.

Wine from grapes and juice new this year- run co2 into garden 75 percent of the way through primary ferment and I was able to measure with colormetric tube at 1000 ppm which is >500 ppm above background, continuing fermentation with white sugar and any simple sugar from the pantry particularly anything that expired in '04 or earlier, will be adding yeast cake to compost pile after reading post about beer wort. This year I plan to rack on or around the the supermoon - researching the reasons behind this pretty much lead me originating this thread.fun hobby3.JPG
Lights - left to right cannibalized amazon purchase 2cxb3070 3500 50w ea. and powers two pendants at top of pic 1 made with 3 damaged 3070 (couple rows of dead leds from me damaging them) edit - this one is 60w total on a separate driver the blurples are still powered by one of the 4 50w in the chinese light, 1 5000K at 50w, and the blurples were re-used in main light, straight uva/uvb (off and timer shit the bed today to boot so got that to deal with now), main - 2 agromax 10kK, 4 hortilux power veg +uv (2 center ones get swapped with a pair of 660 reds to simulate low uv days) estimated ballast factor of 1.15ish, 7 cxa3070 at 30-40w ea.

nice!!!!!!! i like your workshop. does your sourdough just explode from lack of pressure???

i need to get my sourdough starter going. im supposed to try and make a loaf of potflour sourdough. plan is feed the start for a week ya know. then use however much powdered/decarbed trim leaves as i have around, maybe only a cup worth, and the rest plain flour.

Ummmmm.... Muther Fucker this is going to get interisting......

I don't have any comparison for the starter exploding as I have only made it at 7200ish feet, I did take it camping to about 11000ft but was so cold it slowed it down and i forgot the eggs so subbed a couple of scoops of mayonase in the pancakes, it worked, not well but it worked.

would you use hempseed flour to promote any kind of symbiotic relationhip? or is using a seed based flour not an option bc wont ferment, cant get control of unwanted yeasts, it just dosent work that way?

im making the yeast starter the normal way. starting with whole wheat flour, then to organic unbleached white flour, let it form the starter as typical. then when i go to bake, instead of mixing 2 cup of new flour into a half cup of starter (or whatever the recipe wants) i'll use a half cup of starter and 1cup of reg flour and 1 cup of pot flour.

this is really experimental btw. idk that hempseed/hempseed flour by itself can make a starter... idk that potflour by itself could make a starter.... maybe try it and if it needs a breadmakers yeast packet then so be it right?

i just finished a harvest two days ago so ill keep you up to date lol
Experimental goes without saying, I'm visiting a detemer (sp?) ranch tomorrow, any questions I should ask? Might end up doing a parking lot deal that would set the atf and fda on fire.
